The article discusses the impact of the international cultural project European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012 on a tourist visit in the city. The author analyzes in particular the data of the ...stationary tourist visits (number of tourists and overnight stays, share of overnight stays by country, the average length of stay of tourists, the seasonality of tourist visit) in 2012, and compared them with the years prior to the implementation of the project, and the year 2013. Where possible, he uses a comparison with the data in the city of Pecs (Hungary), which wore the title of ECoC in 2010. ECoC Maribor 2012 was the biggest and most recognizable cultural project in the history of Slovenia. In addition to the direct effect on cultural activity and its development, the project has had a major impact also on the promotion of Maribor and partner towns, as well as Slovenia in general. It had also significant positive effects on the local economy; in Maribor in 2012 were registered about 19% more tourist arrivals and 17% more overnight stays than the year before, and the tourist visit remained in 2013 almost at the same level. //ABSTRACT IN SLOVENE: V prispevku je predstavljen vpliv mednarodnega kulturnega projekta Evropska prestolnica kulture Maribor 2012 na turisticni obisk v mestu. The following article discusses the Jewish presence in medieval Maribor from the 10th century to the expulsion in 1496. The discussion starts with the phenomenon of »Jewish villages« in the area of ...South-Eastern Alps in the framework of which also the appearance of the Jewish community of Maribor after 1200 should be understood. That community not only turned into a major regional Jewish centre, but also developed its own version of Ashkenazi liturgical rite and in the 15th century partially served as a home for the renowned halachic scholar Rabbi Israel Isserlein. As attested by numerous Jewish and non-Jewish sources, the community had a very rich organisational, cultural and economic life that continued until the expulsion.

The article discusses the process of setting up an exhibition presenting the fragments of alternative creative practices in 1980s Maribor (Slovenia) in an art museum. Within an interdisciplinary ...approach – art historical, museological and anthropological, which is in focus here – I try to understand how such a heritage of alternative creative practices is constructed and produced. Furthermore, the question of the anthropological potentiality of exhibition-making as a method for researching certain aspects of urban practices and development is considered. During the exhibition the art museum became a collaborative place for negotiating, mediating and constructing a heritage between an imagined community of (once) alternative individuals and collectives who participated in the exhibition, the museum staff, visitors and the media. The exhibition was echoed in some other events in the city as it also addressed contemporary artistic, cultural and social issues in Maribor.
Uvođenjem ustavne monarhije, šezdesetih su godina XIX. stoljeća dio poslijediplomskog obrazovanja liječnika preuzela liječnička društva u regionalnim granicama tadašnje Habsburške Monarhije. ...Liječnici i ranarnici u Ljubljani ustanovili su svoje strukovno udruženje u listopadu 1861. (Ärztlicher Leseverein in Laibach).
The paradigm of quality of life in housing depends on variousinterconnectedness functions, which satisfy not only the needsof dwellers but also the inhabitants of the city, in general. Inaddition, it ...is essential that the residential areas incorporatewell accessible and appropriately designed open public spaceand green areas. In regard to that, the chapter focuses onthe impacts of housing estate planning elements on qualityof life. Currently, open public space and green areas in thepost-WW2 housing estates are often used for other purposes, largely as a consequence of number of cars that has led toenormous parking problems.
