Charles Gounod (1818-1893) is the composer who inaugurated, in the 19th century, a new type of opera: the lyric opera. Besides the well-known Faust (1859/1869), Mireille (1864) or Romeo and Juliet ...(1867/1888), Gounod wrote vocal, instrumental and symphonic works, as well as religious compositions, his influence on the French classical music being immense. In 2018, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the composer, the National Library of Romania organized the exhibition “From “Faust” to “Romeo and Juliet”: the Lyric Opera in the Charles Gounod’s Creation” with documents and illustrations from bibliophile volumes preserved by the Special Collections (the Cabinet of Music and the Cabinet of Bibliophily). Famous writers, on whose literary creations Gounod’s works based their libretti, were also presented (William Shakespeare, Pierre Corneille, Molière, Jean de La Fontaine, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe): portraits and thematic images published between the 18th-19th centuries by well-known editors.
Unlike other themes characteristic of Titu Maiorescu's work, the issue of education is relatively little dealt with in the pedagogical and critical literature. We can already discuss of a tradition ...in the field of family-specific education, particularly represented by the activity of his father Ioan Maiorescu (1811-1866). Celebrated many times during his life the centenary in 2017 has gone almost unnoticed for the social, cultural and educational backgrounds in Romania. Known and popularized in particular through the theory of forms whitout a background his work includes other achievements and implications little explored in hermeneutical works. The activity in the field of education, both through his position in various governments and through the three reports on education, reveals a comprehensive view of the state of education and the direction of improvement in the different conditions and contexts in which Romania was situated at the period. Apart from the reports on education, the political interventions published as Parliamentary Speeches (Discursuri parlamentare) as well as the Daily Notes (Însemnări zilnice) complement and overcome the strict associations with the philosophical systems of Friedrich Herbart, Arthur Schopenhauer or the French and English philosophers. Verylittle compared to the memoirs literature and parliamentary speeches of other German, French and English contemporaries such as W.E. Gladstone (1809-1898), for example, the paper explores comparatively the education issue from the first essays such as The Drunkeness of Words (First and Second literary pathology)(Beţia de cuvinte; primul şi al doilea studiu de patologie lingvistică) to the Parliamentary Speeches and the three reports on education and compares this issue with the contemporary theme in a stylistic and conceptual way as an example and model of a realistic and pragmatic approach to education not negleting references to the present day situation.

This paper focuses on several important aspects of Shakespeare's reception in Romania in the 20th century, with special reference to Macbeth. The main aim of the paper is to underline the gradually ...changing perspective of the Romanian intellectuals on Shakespeare as well as their improving competence in their work. In addition to this, special attention is given to their constant effort to reestablish the historical truth that, due to the political context in the second half of the 20th century, was seriously altered and, as a consequence, often gave the Romanian readers a distorted Shakespeare.
