A review of 181 patients that underwent ‘semi-virtual’ patch testing using virtual day 2 readings. Results highlight that most patients are able to remove patches and take high quality images via ...smart phone technology, with very limited adverse clinical impact. A notable reduction in travel was required, with subsequent positive environmental impacts.
Background
Previous studies reported a low‐to‐moderate benefit from patch testing regarding allergen recall and avoidance.
Objectives
To determine the allergen recall and avoidance rates of patients ...with allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in Turkey.
Methods
This was a retrospective cohort study based on a phone questionnaire of 465 patients diagnosed with ACD from major allergen groups, that is, metals, preservatives, rubber, fragrances (ubiquitous allergens) and hair dye/black henna, topical drug and resins (nonubiquitous allergens), at our tertiary referral centre between 1996 and 2018.
Results
Among 176 responders, allergen groups were remembered better (53.4%) than the individual allergens (36.9%). Age <40 years and keeping the allergy pass had a significantly positive impact on the recall rate of methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone and nickel, particularly non‐occupational nickel allergy from metal jewellery in females, respectively. Exacerbations of ACD (56.3%) were mainly due to reexposures to ubiquitous allergens. 42.9% of patients with occupational ACD changed or quit their job, most of them being construction workers and hairdressers, showing a high share (83.3%) of benefit.
Conclusions
The overall rates of allergen recall and avoidance were moderate. New strategies are needed to improve the recall and avoidance rates of contact allergens, such as increased use of allergy pass, smartphone applications and legal precautions.

Methods
The medical records of 247 patients with clinically suspected footwear dermatitis who underwent patch testing were reviewed.
Results
The prevalence of ACD to footwear was 1.8%. Females were predominant (71.6%). The three most common allergens were carba mix (7.7%), mercapto mix (6.9%) and potassium dichromate (6.9%). According to the allergens found, rubber (14.2%), adhesives (7.7%) and leathers (6.9%) were the three most common groups. Dorsal‐limited skin lesions were significantly associated with footwear ACD.
Conclusion
Rubber and leather allergens were still the most common culprit allergens. Dermatologists should keep up‐to‐date on common allergens in footwear and emerging allergens to include in patch test series.

Objectives
To update the European Society of Contact Dermatitis guideline on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment on of hand eczema.
Method
The Guideline Development Group (GDG) was established on behalf of the ESCD. A call for interest was launched via the ESCD website and via the ESCD members' mailing list. Appraisal of the evidence for therapeutic and preventive interventions was applied and a structured method of developing consensus was used and moderated by an external methodologist. The final guideline was approved by the ESCD executive committee and was in external review on the ESCD webpage for 1 month.
Results
Consensus was achieved for several statements and management strategies.
Conclusion
The updated guideline should improve management of hand eczema.

Retrospective analysis of patients tested to the North American Contact Dermatitis Group screening series from 2015 to 2018.
Of 10,526 patients, 193 (1.8%) had positive patch test reactions to APS. Compared with APS-negative patients, APS-positive patients were significantly more likely to be male (43.2% vs 28.0%; P < .0001); have primary hand dermatitis (30.2% vs 22.0%; P = .0064), scattered generalized dermatitis (25.5% vs 17.9%; P = .0064), or trunk dermatitis (8.9% vs 4.9%; P = .0123); and have dermatitis that is occupationally related (22.2% vs 10.9%; P < .0001). More than half of the APS-positive reactions were currently relevant (57.0%); 19 (9.8%) were related to occupation, especially hairdressers (68.4%). Swimming pools/spas (23.3%) and hair care products (19.2%) were the most common sources of APS.
Immediate reactions and follow-up testing were not captured.
The proportion of patients positive to APS was 1.8%. APS positivity was significantly associated with male sex and hand dermatitis. Swimming pool/spa chemicals were important sources of APS exposure.
