The article is devoted to processes involved in the formation of complex words in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish, with reference to material from other Slavic languages. The main problems in the ...comparative description of Slavic composites are highlighted, and the principles of their classification are defined. Various new phenomena in the formation of complex words in modern Slavic languages are demonstrated. It is noted that word-formation processes in these languages have both common and distinctive features. The prospects for further research in the field of comparative word formation are outlined.
The article focuses on studying Czech borrowings – Bohemisms – in the East Slavic written languages of the 14th–18th centuries. The spread of the Czech language beyond its ethnic territories ...contributed to the penetration of Czech linguistic elements into the East Slavic scripts. As a result of direct and indirect Czech-East Slavic language contacts, Bohemisms were borrowed into the Old Belarusian, Old Ukrainian and Old Russian languages, as a rule, with Polish mediation. The Bohemisms established in the process of research represent different lexico-semantic groups, in origin they can go back to Latin, Greek, German, Romanesque, Hungarian primary sources, or have a proper Czech origin and are etymologically related to the Proto-Slavic roots.

The volume “Slavic Languages Today: Categories, Structures and Processes” is a festschrift dedicated to Professor Małgorzata Korytkowska. Thematically it also partly stems from her works but ...encompasses a slightly wider scope of linguistic issues, including semantics, syntax, word formation, contrastive studies, lexicology and lexicography, language resources and translation studies. Separate chapters describe these issues in respect to modern Slavic languages and sometimes in comparison within (or in some cases outside) the group. They often highlight the role of semantics and syntax as core components of linguistic investigations, and present some complex relations between distinct language layers (such as word formation and syntax). The volume contains over twenty interesting contributions devoted to several linguistic issues in modern Slavic languages and authored by renowned Slavists from Poland and abroad.

The paper provides basic information about the Kajkavian lexicon, its origin, its contact with the Hungarian and German languages and about contemporary phenomena in its interference with the ...Croatian standard language (pseudo-analogonymy and the latest semantic adaptations). As the lexicon of Croatian Kajkavian dialects is marginally represented in the existing etymological dictionaries of the Croatian language, the paper points out that it is difficult to classify a large number of lexemes that are not found in any of the Slavic languages. Lexical borrowing of Hungarianisms occurs very rarely to fill in lexical gaps and is much more common for non-linguistic reasons (geographical and political) because the vast majority of them had equivalents in the recipients’ vernaculars at the time of primary adaptation. Of the semantic fields covered by Hungarianisms, the most numerous is the one that refers to pejorative meanings in the context of human characteristics, appearance and behaviour, whereas those covered by Germanisms refer to technical expressions from various trades.
The initial chapters of the study emphasize the issue of the conditional as a mode and tense in European Portuguese (EP) and Slovenian. Furthermore, the study reveals some considerations regarding ...the conditional value and grammatical constructions that are used in the two languages to fulfil this modal value. The study aims to present the contexts and values of the conditional and to exemplify the variety and complexity of grammatical constructions through a contrastive analysis. This contribution can also be relevant for future research in the area of translation, as it raises possible questions and challenges that may arise during the translation from one language to another. Further research that conducts a contrastive analysis between European Portuguese and Slovenian would be of great importance for the promotion of this fresh field of studies in the Slovenian academic environment
