Roadmapping is an established and proven approach used globally for supporting technology and strategic planning, thus facilitating innovation. Sustaining the implementation of organizational ...roadmapping can prove challenging due to its inherently flexible and adaptable nature. We address this issue, reporting an in-depth case study of roadmapping implementation within Subsea 7, a leading marine engineering, construction, and services company. We provide insights regarding its history, future opportunities relating to digitalization, challenges in the age of COVID-19, and lessons learned.
The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens, is one of the most destructive rice pests in Asia. It has already developed a high level of resistance to many commonly used insecticides including ...nitenpyram (NIT), which is a main synthetic insecticide that is used to control BPH with a much shorter persistence compared to other neonicotinoid insecticides. Recently, we found that an exogenous supplement of paclobutrazol (PZ) could significantly enhance the efficacy of NIT against BPH, and the molecular mechanism underlying this synergistic effect was explored. The results showed that the addition of a range of 150–300 mg/L PZ increased the toxicity of NIT against BPH with the highest mortalities of 78.0–87.0% on the 16th day after treatments, and PZ could also significantly prolong the persistence of the NIT efficacies. Further investigation suggested that PZ directly increased the content of flavonoids and Hsub.2Osub.2 in rice and increased the activity of polyphenol oxidase, which might be involved in the constitutive defense of rice in advance. Additionally, there was an interaction between PZ and BPH infestation, indicating that PZ might activate the host defense responses. Therefore, PZ increased the efficacy of NIT against the brown planthoppers by enhancing the constitutive and inducible defense responses of rice. Our study showed for the first time that PZ could contribute to improving the control effects of insecticides via inducing the defense responses in rice plants against BPH, which provided an important theoretical basis for developing novel pest management strategies in the field.
This article presents a novel and broadly generalizable framework for generating diverse and plausible sets of scenarios. Potential future outcomes are decomposed using a set of uncertainties which ...are assumed to be multivariate normally distributed, regardless of whether the uncertainties actually present numerically quantifiable phenomena. The optimal scenarios are then chosen along the principal components of the distribution, and the results can be easily interpreted and visualized. Notably, our approach requires a relatively small number of numerical assessments, offering an efficient and practical solution for decision-makers. The framework also provides a testable setting for evaluating its performance and allows users to iteratively improve future-related assumptions and predictions. These findings are relevant for all fields that aim to understand potential future developments, such as, but not limited to, foresight, economics, business strategy and strategic intelligence analysis.

A significant crop pest, Mythimna loreyi, migrates annually to Korea and has been frequently observed in rice and corn fields. However, the phenology of this pest, particularly in relation to its ...ecological interactions and host crop seasons in Korea, remains poorly understood. This study aims to clarify the timing of the second generation of M. loreyi in Korea to enhance pest management strategies. To achieve this, we developed temperature-dependent models for developmental and ovipositional rates, studying these processes across five constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30, and 35°C). Our models, which showed a high correlation with observed data (r.sup.2 greater than or equal to 0.93), include a theoretical approach that combines the developmental variation of immatures with the necessary degree-days for 50% egg laying and complete egg development. These predictions allow for the forecasting of the second generation's occurrence, with relatively small deviations (one to three days) observed at two different field sites. The insights from this study are critical for both understanding the ecology of M. loreyi and for informing practical management decisions, such as optimal placement of barriers to prevent immigration and strategies for controlling local populations.
Managers face a critical issue in deciding when to employ a predictive planning approach versus a more adaptive and flexible strategic approach. We suggest that determining which approach is ideal ...for a given context hangs on the extent to which uncertainty is, or might be, mitigable within that context. To date, however, the mitigability of uncertainty has not been adequately distilled. Here, we take on this issue, distinguishing mitigable ignorance of pertinent but knowable information (i.e., "epistemic uncertainty") from immitigable indeterminacy (i.e., "aleatory uncertainty"). We review the current state of the debate on the existence of free will, because the acceptance or rejection of conscious agents as a true first cause has fundamental implications. A critical examination of the arguments for and against the free will hypothesis land us on the side of voluntarism, which implies immitigable indeterminacy (but not complete unpredictability) wherever conscious actors are involved. Accepting the existence of immitigable or aleatory uncertainty, then, we revisit the determination of strategic logics and produce important theoretical nuance and key boundary conditions in the normative choice between predictive and nonpredictive strategies.
The purpose of this work is to prepare proposals to improve the effectiveness of state strategic planning by increasing the level of validity of the planned and forecast calculations. In modern ...conditions, the main important directions for ensuring the further development of domestic strategic planning are target management and production regulation. In this work, the following issues have been resolved: 1) As a result of the analysis of methodological approaches to strategic planning in the USSR and Russia, the initial methodological premises were identified and the most expedient area of using the above mechanisms of its development was substantiated; 2) Based on the study and scientific generalization of domestic and foreign research in the field of long-term planning, methodological and methodological foundations for creating its regulatory framework have been developed, including principles, procedures, composition and structure; 3) Proposals have been substantiated for the creation in the Russian Federation of a special ministry - strategic development.
