Članak analizira odrednice vesterna u seriji Yellowstone (2018. ‒ 2023.), služeći se teorijom žanra vesterna (Tompkins, Cawelti i Mitchell). Analizira se u kojoj mjeri te odrednice žanra – poput ...krajolika, kauboja, konja, smrti, kretanja kroz prostor, te opreke divljina/civilizacija – i danas funkcioniraju u vesternu tradicionalnog tipa kao što je Yellowstone, te zašto je mainstream gledateljstvu vestern još uvijek privlačan. U članku se također diskutira o procesu transformacije življenog iskustva bijelih doseljenika na američkom Zapadu u mit o postanku američkog društva (Slotkin), što se zatim povezuje s genezom vesterna iz pseudorealističnog u mitski žanr. Drugim riječima, u članku se istražuje mitopoetski naboj žanra vesterna kojim se stvara mit o američkoj naciji, mit koji se, poput vesterna, uvijek pripovijeda iz bijele doseljeničke perspektive pa stoga proizvodi ideološki jednostrani narativ. Nadalje, u članku se analizira retorika legitimacije žanra i ‘američkog’ načina života inzistiranjem na autentičnosti života na američkom (bijelom) Zapadu, koji uključuje povratak starim (bijelim, doseljeničkim) vrijednostima. Služeći se, između ostalog, argumentom autentičnosti žanra, članak pokazuje kako serija Yellowstone, oslanjajući se na ‘spektakularnost’ predstava o Divljem zapadu (poput onih kakve je uprizorivao Buffalo Bill na prijelazu iz devetnaestog u dvadeseto stoljeće), ostaje čvrsto unutar žanra tradicionalnog vesterna. Članak pokazuje kako Yellowstone retorički i pojavno inzistira na tome da prikazuje ‘autentični’ život na američkom Zapadu danas, ugrađujući u sebe mnoge elemente same mitopoeje američkog društva, ali kako, kao prava (konjska) sapunica, nehotice prokazuje te stare vrijednosti kao dvolične, jednostrane i samožive, ukazujući na nedostatke tog hvaljenog ‘američkog’ načina života.
The article analyzes certain tenets of the Western genre in the series Yellowstone (2018-2023), drawing on the Western genre theory (Tompkins, Cawelti, Mitchell). It examineshow much the genre’s defining features – landscape, cowboy, horse, death, movementacross space, and wilderness/civilization – function today in a traditional Western likeYellowstone, and why they still appeal to mainstream audiences. A discussion of theprocesses of transformation of lived experience of white settlers in the American Westinto the myth of the origin of the American nation (Slotkin), is then connected to thegenesis of the Western, from a pseudo-realistic genre into a mythical one. In otherwords, the article explores the mythopoetic charge of the Western, which in large partcreates the myth of the American nation that, like the Western, is traditionally narratedfrom the white settler perspective. Furthermore, the article analyzes the Western’sinsistence on authenticity of life in the American (white) West. Using the argumentof genre authenticity, the article shows how Yellowstone, relying on the ‘spectacularity’of the old Wild West shows (e.g. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West), remains firmly entrenchedwithin the traditional Western genre. Yellowstone rhetorically and visually insists on itsdepiction of the ‘authentic’ way of life in today’s American West, incorporating many elementsof the mythopoeia of American society. Also, as a true soap opera (horse opera),it unintentionally exposes those old values as hypocritical, one-sided, and self-serving,indicating the shortcomings of that praised ‘American’ way of life.

The New ...York Times reporter Kenneth R. Rosen had just purchased his first Kevlar vest and was headed off on assignment in Iraq. He was travelling into Mosul when he came to realize that the idea of a bulletproof vest is more effective than the vest itself. From its very inception, poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide, as it is known, was meant for tires. The strong yet lightweight fiber was the creation of Stephanie Kwolek who, anticipating a gas shortage, focused her attention on producing a tire that could save on gas mileage. Soon it would surpass nylon. Its humble roots and applications are often lost to the colloquialism of the word "Kevlar," now synonymous with weapons shielding and tank armor. But in fact, Kevlar is used as a material in more than 200 applications, including tennis rackets, skis, and parachute lines. What Rosen learned through an intimate use of his bulletproof vest was that it acts as a metaphor for all the precautions we take toward digital, physical, and social security; at their most extreme, bulletproof vests represent a human desire to forge ahead. Bulletproof Vest is at once an introspective journey into the properties and precisions of Kevlar on a molecular level and on the world stage. Eine telemedizinische Versorgung kann neue Einsatzmöglichkeiten bereits etablierter Therapeutika wie einer tragbaren Defibrillator-Weste (WCD) ermöglichen und über ein verbessertes ...Management von hierüber abgeleiteten Vitaldaten die Versorgungsqualität von chronisch kranken Patienten mit Herzinsuffizienz (HI) erhöhen. Im aktuellen Fallbericht wird der klinische Verlauf eines 71 Jahre alten Patienten beschrieben, der nach einer akuten kardialen Dekompensation und neudiagnostizierter hochgradiger Einschränkung der kardialen Pumpfunktion im Rahmen einer ischämischen Kardiomyopathie leitliniengerecht mit einer WCD bis zur endgültigen Entscheidung über eine ICD-Implantation versorgt wurde. Die durch die WCD gesammelten Vitalwerte wurden über ein Telemedizinzentrum (TMZ) strukturiert ausgewertet und hierbei ein Rezidiv des vorbekannten paroxysmalen Vorhofflimmerns (VHF) entdeckt, was vor einer möglichen Dekompensation durch Anpassung der Medikation und frühzeitiger Initiierung einer Pulmonalvenenisolation (PVI) therapiert werden konnte. Dieser Fall zeigt exemplarisch die Sinnhaftigkeit strukturierter telemedizinischer Intervention auf, die es ermöglicht, etablierte Konzepte der Patientenversorgung sinnvoll zu ergänzen, bestehende Konzepte zu optimieren und die Patientenversorgung signifikant zu verbessern.

The summit of the Americas hosted by President Clinton in December 1994 has given strong impetus to Western Hemisphere economic integration. This is the first comprehensive analysis of the economics ...and politics of a Western Hemisphere Free Trade Agreement. It has attracted considerable attention in business and policy circles throughout the hemisphere and is widely credited with having influenced the decision of the hemispheric heads of state to seek a free trade agreement by 2005. The US "sherpa" for the Summit, Assistant Secretary of State Alexander Watson, has described the book as the blueprint for US policy.The authors recommend that the NAFTA be extended to includeall of the countries in the region when and as they undertakethe economic and political reforms necessary to join.
