The book, based on memories of a native son and the research of
a scholar, is an amalgam of descriptions and discussions, peppered
with conversations, personal observations and an acute observer's
...reflections, focused on the fabric of life in the city of Lodz and
its vicinity. The author describes the "court" of the Hasidic
Rabbis of Aleksander, with which his family was affiliated, the
rival camps of Hasidim and Zionists, industrialists and laborers,
struggles with the Polish authorities, and more. Detailed chapters
are dedicated to a description of studies at a modern
Jewish-Zionist high school (Gymnasium) - its exhilarating goals,
directors and teachers, to the Lodz poet Yitzhak Katzenelson before
and during the Holocaust, and to life in a small Polish shtetl.
The concluding chapter "Return to Poland" examines the cities
and towns described earlier in the book, as well as
Breslau-Wroclaw, where the author had completed his rabbinic and
university studies in 1933, as they appeared to him during his
visit in 1982, nearly fifty years after his departure from Europe
for Israel.
The author's aim was to produce a portrait, sympathetic,
intimate, but also knowledgeable and critical, of a generation that
did not have the time to take stock of itself before its
obliteration. He has thus rendered palpable the experiences and
quandaries of many of his contemporaries.

Objectives
The main objective was to examine the relationship between weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) and the prevalence of hypertension among individuals aged ≥60 years who participated in the ...NHANES between 2011 and 2018 years.
Methods
The data for this study were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2018. In this population-based study, we focused on participants who were over 60 years old. Data were collected from the aforementioned survey, and the variable of interest was WWI, which was calculated as waist (cm) divided by the square root of body weight (kg). Multivariable logistic regression model was applied to calculate adjusted ORs with 95% CIs in order to explore any possible correlation between WWI and the prevalence of hypertension. Subgroup analysis were used to verify the stability of the relationship between WWI and the prevalence of hypertension. The interaction tests were also conducted in this research.
Results
Results revealed that adults aged ≥60 years who were in the highest WWI quartile had significantly higher chances of developing hypertension when compared to those in the lowest quartile, after adjusting for covariates and potential confounders (

< 0.001).
Conclusion
These findings suggest that there is a strong correlation between elevated levels of WWI and the risk of developing hypertension among older adults. As such, WWI could serve as a unique and valuable biomarker for identifying hypertension risk at an earlier stage in the older adults population.

In the absence of historical sources destroyed by war and occupiers, the remaining historical sources from the German administration are essential for knowing the situation of an important area of the region between the Danubeand the Black Sea. Essential information is included in the Memorandum of the German Stage Administration of Dobrogea issued in mid April 1917. Knowledge of demographic realities is possible from the data in two statistics: Statistics of the Inhabitants o f the German Stages Administration in Dobrogea, 15 May 1917and Statistics of the Inhabitants of the German Stage Administration in Dobrogea, February 15, 1918. Another document, Report on Conversations that took place between commanders charged with the exploitation phase, supply officers and commanders of regiments and battalions, refers to 16 themes. “Curierul Dobrogei” periodical is published in German by the German Administration, later with a supplement in Bulgarian and Turkish. The German government printed Images from Dobrogea, a valuable collective volume, with the contributions of major German scientists.
This article contemplates the tension between apathy and hope, between the dystopic and the utopian as drivers of the human condition, and our theories about it. I look, more specifically, at how ...these two tendencies manifested in the aftermath of WWI; the dystopic in Freud's invention of the death drive, the utopian in Ernst Bloch's exploration of hope. I argue that our present poses a challenge similar to that posed by WWI; a collapse of the frameworks around which subjectivities and societies are organized, and a potential for the development of both better and worse outlooks. I argue that as was the case then, psychoanalysis has crucial theoretical and ethical choices to make. I suggest that rather than follow Freud's death driven fatalism, we should seek inspiration in Bloch's view of hope as a driving force of human experience and destiny. I contemplate these ideas as I record events taking place in the world and in my practice during the weeks just before and after the 2020 elections in the US.
Obesity and psychological factors were identified as risk factors for female infertility. The study investigated the correlation between WWI, depression, and secondary infertility, focusing on the ...potential mediating role of depression.
According to the data from NHANES, this cross-sectional study used multiple regression analysis, subgroup analysis, and smooth curve fitting to explore the relationship between WWI, depression, and secondary infertility. The diagnostic ability of WWI was evaluated and compared to other obesity indicators using the ROC curve. The mediating effect test adopted the distribution of the product.
This study involved 2778 participants, including 381 (13.7%) women with secondary infertility. Results showed that higher WWI (OR = 1.31; 95% CI, 1.11-1.56) and depression scores (OR = 1.03; 95% CI, 1.01-1.06) were associated with secondary infertility. There was a positive correlation between WWI and secondary infertility (nonlinear
= 0.8272) and this association was still consistent in subgroups (all
for interaction> 0.05). Compared with other obesity indicators, WWI (AUC = 0.588) also shows good predictive performance for secondary infertility. Mediation analysis showed that depression mediated the relationship between 3.94% of WWI and secondary infertility, with a confidence interval of Z

WWI exhibited a relatively good correlation in predicting secondary infertility than other obesity indicators, and depression may be a mediator between WWI and secondary infertility. Focusing on the potential mediating role of depression, the risk of secondary infertility due to obesity may be beneficially reduced in women.

It is widely believed that the political problems of the Middle
East date back to the era of World War I, when European colonial
powers unilaterally imposed artificial borders on the post-Ottoman
...world in postwar agreements. This book offers a new account of how
the Great War unmade and then remade the political order of the
region. Ranging from Morocco to Iran and spanning the eve of the
Great War into the 1930s, it demonstrates that the modern Middle
East was shaped through complex and violent power struggles among
local and international actors. Jonathan Wyrtzen shows how the
cataclysm of the war opened new possibilities for both European and
local actors to reimagine post-Ottoman futures. After the 1914-1918
phase of the war, violent conflicts between competing political
visions continued across the region. In these extended struggles,
the greater Middle East was reforged. Wyrtzen emphasizes the
intersections of local and colonial projects and the entwined
processes through which states were made, identities transformed,
and boundaries drawn. This book's vast scope encompasses successful
state-building projects such as the Turkish Republic and the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as short-lived political

Our objective was to evaluate how various measures of obesity, such as body mass index(BMI), body roundness index(BRI), and weigh adjusted waist index(WWI), influence urate levels, prevalence of gout ...and to compare the disparities among these obesity indicators.
By analyzing the 2001-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), we assessed the relationship between BMI, WWI, and BRI indices and urate levels, hyperuricemia, and the prevalence of gout. Smoothed curve fitting was used to determine whether there was a nonlinear relationship between BMI,WWI, and BRI indices and urate levels, hyperuricemia, and the prevalence of gout, and threshold effects analysis was used to test this relationship. We also used ROC curves to determine the diagnostic efficacy of BMI, WWI, and BRI on the prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout.
The study incorporated a total of 29,310 participants aged over 20 years, out of which 14,268 were male. Following the adjustment for the pertinent confounding factors, it was observed that higher levels of BMI, WWI, and BRI were significantly associated with a gradual and dose-dependent increase in urate levels. In the sensitivity analysis, each unit increment in BMI, WWI, and BRI levels exhibited an 8%, 72%, and 26% respective elevation in the risk of hyperuricemia, as well as a 5%, 31%, and 15% respective increase in the risk of gout. Dose-response curves provided evidence of a linear positive correlation between BMI, WWI, BRI, and urate levels, as well as the prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout. Based on the response from the ROC curve, overall, the diagnostic efficacy of BRI for hyperuricemia and gout surpasses that of BMI.
The central obesity indices WWI and BRI levels are superior to BMI in detecting the prevalence of urate levels, hyperuricemia, and gout, and although a clear causal relationship has not yet been established, it is important to recognize the impact of central obesity on uric acid levels and to give it due attention.
