Plantains are high in potassium and glucose, while yellow watermelons are high in citrulline, antioxidants and fluids. The combination juice of plantain and yellow watermelon provides glucose and ...fluids, suppresses lactic acid and muscle inflammation, so will improve endurance during aerobic exercise. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of combining juices of yellow watermelon plantains on aerobic swimming endurance in Sprague-Dawley rats. The design of this study was true experimental and used a post-test only with a controlled group. The 21 male Sprague Dawley rats, were divided into three groups, the control (K), which were given one dose of juice (P1) and two doses (P2). Rats were observed for the length of swimming. One-Way Anova and Post-Hoc LSD were used to analyze the data. The results of this study found that on average P2 with a double dose of juice had a longer swim. The P1 swim 390,57 seconds longer than control, while P2 swim 757,57 seconds longer than control, while P2 could swim 367 seconds longer than P1. There was a difference in swim length (p < 0,001) in each group after intervention with variation doses. The conclusion was that there was a difference in endurance in each group after receiving a combined juice with variation doses.
Established reference standards for the ventilatory threshold (Vt) are lacking. The aim of this study was to develop reference standards for the Vt derived from cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) ...using treadmill and cycle ergometry.
Seven laboratories experienced in CPX administration with established quality control procedures contributed to the Fitness Registry and the Importance of Exercise: A National Database (FRIEND) from April 2014 through February 2019. Vt data from 27 states in the United States and the Ontario Province in Canada, comprising 9,350 tests (treadmill: n = 1,195; cycle ergometer: n = 8,155) in men (n = 7,540) and women (n = 1,810) 20 to 79 years of age who were free from smoking and known cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, and/or neoplastic disease were used to develop the reference standards. Comparisons of Vt values were made between exercise testing modes, sex, and age groups.
Vt values on the treadmill were higher than cycle ergometry; men had higher Vt values than women on both test modalities, and the highest Vt values achieved were in the 20- to 29-year-old age group compared with all other age groups (all P < .001). The rates of decline in Vt values from age groups 20 to 29 through 70 to 79 years of age were 23% and 35% in men and 47% and 30% in women for treadmill and cycle ergometry tests, respectively.
In addition to previous reference standards from FRIEND for cardiorespiratory fitness, the Vt reference standards reported herein provide valuable information on functional metric. These data have important implications for CPX interpretation and aerobic exercise prescription in the clinical and fitness settings.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of small-sided games 5v5 on increasing aerobic endurance in football players.
Materials and methods. This type of study is a quasi-experiment ...with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study was Gama Muda Football School (SSB) players in Pasaman Regency (Indonesia), totaling 60 persons. Sampling was performed using a targeted sampling technique, so the sample was determined to be a maximum of 20 individuals. The players’ endurance capacity was determined by measuring their VO2max capacity. The study used the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test (Yo-Yo IR Test) as an instrument to obtain research data. Data analysis in this study used the mean difference test (t-test) statistical method. Before testing our hypothesis, we first performed a normality test using the Lilliefors test.
Results. After hypothesis testing, the results obtained show the value of t-count (10.15) > t-table (1.729), indicating that small-sided games 5v5 training effectively improves the aerobic endurance ability of young football players.
Conclusions. The results of this study demonstrate that small-sided games 5v5 training can improve the aerobic endurance of young football players.

Purpose: To develop and validate criterion-referenced fitness standards for older adults that predict the level of capacity needed for maintaining physical independence into later life. The proposed ...standards were developed for use with a previously validated test battery for older adults--the Senior Fitness Test (Rikli, R. E., & Jones, C. J. (2001). Development and validation of a functional fitness test for community-residing older adults. Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, 6, 127-159; Rikli, R. E., & Jones, C. J. (1999a). Senior fitness test manual. Champaign, IL: Human Kinetics.). Methods: A criterion measure to assess physical independence was identified. Next, scores from a subset of 2,140 "moderate-functioning" older adults from a larger cross-sectional database, together with findings from longitudinal research on physical capacity and aging, were used as the basis for proposing fitness standards (performance cut points) associated with having the ability to function independently. Validity and reliability analyses were conducted to test the standards for their accuracy and consistency as predictors of physical independence. Results: Performance standards are presented for men and women ages 60-94 indicating the level of fitness associated with remaining physically independent until late in life. Reliability and validity indicators for the standards ranged between 0.79 and 0.97. Implications: The proposed standards provide easy-to-use, previously unavailable methods for evaluating physical capacity in older adults relative to that associated with physical independence. Most importantly, the standards can be used in planning interventions that target specific areas of weakness, thus reducing risk for premature loss of mobility and independence.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of two water-based training programs (aerobic and combined) and a non-periodized physical activity program on functional capacity and quality of life (QoL) ...of elderly women. Forty-one elderly female volunteers (65 ± 4 years) were divided into three groups: aerobic training group (WBA, n = 13), combined training (sequence: resistance/aerobic; WBC; n = 11) and a control group of non-periodized physical activity program (CG, n = 9). The participants performed the water-based trainings twice a week for 12 weeks. The resistance training sets were performed at maximal effort and the aerobic training was performed in the percentage of the heart rate corresponding to the anaerobic threshold (85–110%) determined in an aquatic progressive test. Assessments of QoL perception (WHOQOL-BREF) and functional tests 30-Second Chair Stand, 6-Minute Walk and 8-Foot Up-and-go were performed before and after training. The data were analyzed using Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE), and Bonferroni post-hoc test (α = 0.05). In CG, QoL perception in the physical domain decreased (12 ± 10%) and there was no difference in the other domains. On the other hand, QoL perception was significantly increased in the water-based training groups after the training period in the physical (WBC: 13 ± 16%), psychological (WBA: 9 ± 16%; WBC: 10 ± 11%), social relationships (WBA: 19 ± 42%; WBC: 16 ± 21%) and environmental (WBA: 10 ± 17%; WBC: 16 ± 28%) domains and overall QoL (WBA: 17 ± 22%). No significant difference was observed in the physical domain for WBA and in the overall for WBC. Significant improvements were observed for all groups in the functional tests 30-Second Chair Stand (WBA: 32 ± 11%; WBC: 24 ± 14%; CG: 20 ± 9), 6-Minute Walk (WBA: 10 ± 7%; WBC: 7 ± 6%; CG: 7 ± 5%) and 8-Foot Up-and-go (WBA: 11 ± 5%; WBC: 10 ± 9%; CG: 10 ± 6%). Based on the results observed in this study, it can be concluded that both water-based trainings (aerobic and combined) are effective in improving functional capacity and QoL perception of elderly women. Although non-periodized physical activities seem to be sufficient to positively modify the functional capacity of this population, they are not efficient in improving QoL perception.
•Water-based training programs improve the functional capacity of elderly women.•Non-periodized program improves the functional capacity of elderly women.•Elderly women improve their QoL only after water-based training programs.
In recent years, an increasing trend has been observed in the consumption of specific polyphenols, such as flavonoids and phenolic acids, derived from green tea, berries, and other similar sources. ...These compounds are believed to alleviate oxidative stress and inflammation resulting from exercise, potentially enhancing athletic performance. This systematic review critically examines the role of polyphenol supplementation in improving aerobic endurance among athletes and individuals with regular exercise habits. The review involved a thorough search of major literature databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, SCOPUS, SPORTDiscus, and Embase, covering re-search up to the year 2023. Out of 491 initially identified articles, 11 met the strict inclusion criteria for this review. These studies specifically focused on the incorporation of polyphenols or polyphenol-containing complexes in their experimental design, assessing their impact on aerobic endurance. The methodology adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, and the risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane bias risk assessment tool. While this review suggests that polyphenol supplementation might enhance certain aspects of aerobic endurance and promote fat oxidation, it is important to interpret these findings with caution, considering the limited number of studies available.

Proteinuria is a factor in the progression of IgA-Nephropathy (N-IgA). Physical activity (PA) is related to an increase in proteinuria. For this reason, PA was not traditionally recommended for these ...patients. This work studies the influence of swimming on N-IgA and the need for an adequate prescription. It was designed as a single case study within the Mixed Methods paradigm. The quantitative data collected the PA load performed and urine tests using a dipstick. The qualitative data recorded, through a diary, the subject's daily activity and other aspects of their quality of life. The results show an increase in post-exercise proteinuria, with a decrease in a repeated pattern, adding a lower daily proteinuria. The quality of life also improved: less fatigue, reduced pain and arthro-muscular stiffness, among others. The suitability of prescribing light aerobic swimming for subjects with N-IgA may be considered, although more research is needed.
