We report a case of delayed presentation of popliteal artery laceration after arthroscopic meniscectomy. Three weeks after the procedure, the patient developed severe calf pain, swelling over the ...popliteal fossa, and foot drop, despite a normal initial postoperative period. Clinical examination and radiological investigations suggested a massive hematoma in the popliteal fossa. A decision was made to explore the popliteal artery and drain the hematoma after consultation with the vascular surgeon. A laceration was noted, and it was repaired.
Orthopaedic surgeons should maintain a high index of suspicion regarding the possibility of this postoperative complication, especially after an arthroscopic meniscectomy.

Although organizational theorists have long argued that environments shape organizational structures, they have paid little attention to the processes by which the shaping occurs. This paper examines ...these processes by showing how environments shape teaching and learning activities, which in turn shape structure. Observational field data from structural engineering groups in three firms and hardware engineering groups in three firms revealed that the two occupations exhibited different patterns of learning episodes and different distributions of actors across those episodes, or what, following the work of Roger Barker, we call two distinct teaching-learning ecologies. After detailing the differences in the two ecologies, we show how these differences emerged from patterns of behavior that were influenced by unique sets of environmental and technological constraints. By demonstrating how actions transform environmental constraints into organizational structure, this paper indicates how research on individual learning in organizations can speak to larger concerns in organizational theory. Moreover, by adopting a synthetic and pragmatic approach to individual learning as a social activity, the paper highlights the role of teachers in workplace learning and casts doubts on the existence of a universal model of how individuals learn at work.
This study addresses a particular form of child psychological maltreatment, exposing a child to alienating behaviors in the context of a high degree of conflict between the parents. The objective of ...this research was to identify retrospectively the alienating behaviors that occurred in an Italian sample of children and the reported associated psychosocial symptoms. Seven hundred and thirty‐nine adults in Chieti, Italy, completed an anonymous and confidential survey regarding their childhood exposure to parental alienating behaviors and measures of current symptomatology. About 75% of the sample reported some exposure to parental alienating behaviors; 15% of the sample endorsed the item, “tried to turn me against the other parent.” The results revealed strong and statistically significant associations between reported exposure to parental alienating behaviors and reports of current symptomatology.
Recent evidence for feathers in theropods has led to speculations that the largest tyrannosaurids, including Tyrannosaurus rex, were extensively feathered. We describe fossil integument from ...Tyrannosaurus and other tyrannosaurids (Albertosaurus, Daspletosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Tarbosaurus), confirming that these large-bodied forms possessed scaly, reptilian-like skin. Body size evolution in tyrannosauroids reveals two independent occurrences of gigantism; specifically, the large sizes in Yutyrannus and tyrannosaurids were independently derived. These new findings demonstrate that extensive feather coverings observed in some early tyrannosauroids were lost by the Albian, basal to Tyrannosauridae. This loss is unrelated to palaeoclimate but possibly tied to the evolution of gigantism, although other mechanisms exist.
Pain management following dental procedures, particularly pulpotomies and extraction, is of great importance in pediatric dentistry. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of ...pre-treatment with ibuprofen on post-operative pain following pulpotomy of primary molars.
In a split mouth double-blinded randomized clinical trial, 49 children aging between 6-10 years old were given either ibuprofen or a placebo 45 min prior to the treatment. After pulpotomy and placement of a stainless steel crown (SSC), the pain level was evaluated using the Wong-Baker face visual analogue scale for up to 7 days post-treatment. McNemar and Wilcoxon tests were used for data analysis.
Forty-five patients were eligible to participate in this study. Pre-medication with ibuprofen significantly reduced pain during the first 24 h post-treatment (
=0.032). However, there was no significant difference in the pain levels between placebo and ibuprofen groups at 48 and 72 h post-treatment (
=0.154 and
=0.197, respectively). The number of times patients needed analgesics in ibuprofen group was significantly lower compared to that in the placebo group (
=0.008).
Pre-medication with ibuprofen resulted in less pain following pulpotomy and SSC placement in primary teeth.
Assesing pain in mechanically ventilated patients is a great challenge. Mechanical ventilated patients are often unable to self-report the presence of pain. CPOT is a behavioral pain scale which has ...been developed and validated for measuring pain in nonverbal critically ill adults. Purpose: This study was to compare CPOT and Wong-Baker by examining psychometric properties including reliability, validity and responsiveness. Method : A repeated measures design was chosen for this quantitative study with 31 samples of mechanically ventilated patients. Result : The ICC values of inter-rater reliability were high at 0,965 for CPOT and low at 0,423 for Wong-Baker. Validity was demonstrated by the change in CPOT and Wong-Baker, which were significantly higher during painful procedures,with averages for CPOT 1,32 – 1,42 at rest and 2,39-4,26 during procedure (p <0,001) and for Wong-Baker 4,52 – 4,65 at rest and 5,29-5,74 during procedure. The CPOT exhibited excellent responsiveness, with an effect size ranging from 5,0 to 5,4 better then Wong-Baker with an effect size ranging from 0,8 to 2,2. Conclusion : This study demonstrated that the CPOT can be valid, reliabeland more responsiveness for measuring pain in mechanical ventilated patients.
