Though the Russian Symbolist movement was dominated by a concern with transcending sex, many of the writers associated with the movement exhibited an intense preoccupation with matters of the flesh. ...Drawing on poetry, plays, short stories, essays, memoirs, and letters, as well as feminist and psychoanalytic theory, Beyond the Flesh documents the often unexpected form that this obsession with gender and the body took in the life and art of two of the most important Russian Symbolists.             Jenifer Presto argues that the difficulties encountered in reading Alexander Blok and Zinaida Gippius within either a feminist or a traditional, binary gendered framework derive not only from the peculiarities of their creative personalities but also from the specific Russian cultural context. Although these two poets engaged in gendered practices that, at times, appeared to be highly idiosyncratic and even incited gossip among their contemporaries, they were not operating in a vacuum. Instead, they were responding to philosophical concepts that were central to Russian Symbolism and that would continue to shape modernism in Russia.
Chromodomain helicase DNA-binding (CHD) proteins play important roles in developmental processes. CHD3, a member of the CHD family of proteins, was reported to be a cause of a neurodevelopmental ...syndrome by Snijders Blok et al., but only a small number of probands have been reported.
The patient was a 9-year-old female with severe intellectual disability, speech impairment, autism, joint laxity and dysmorphisms. Whole exome sequencing revealed a de novo missense variant in CHD3 (NM_001005273:exon18: c.2896C > T:p.R966W).
We report a case with a pathogenic variant in the CHD3 gene. Our report indicates that CHD3 analysis is helpful for diagnosis of the cases with neurodevelopmental disorders, joint laxity, and coarse facial phenotype.
The article examines whether the image of the North sweetheart functions in the texts of A. Blok’s poem “In the Attic” and I. Severyanin’s poems “Estland poetry” and “The tale of Ingrid”. The author ...proceeds from the idea that the North, despite the semantic dominant due to cold and freezing, in the works of the Silver Age poets embodies the dream of the life freed from the problems of the time in which they had to live in. Accordingly, the female image, determined by the semantics of the North, is associated with the aspirations of poets, but remains inaccessible. It turns out that, despite the different ways of depicting the heroes, the poets use common themes and motives: the theme of love and death, the theme of beauty, the motives of threat, betrayal.
The article deals with the problem of mythologized perception of the names of the poets of the Silver Age N. Gumilev and A. Blok in the works of G. Ivanov «Chinese Shadows» and «Petersburg Winters». ...The purpose of this study is to determine, based on a comparative analysis of the literary portraits of N. Gumilev and A. Blok, which are created using the contrast technique, the specifics of the myth about the Russian Poet in the memoir prose of G. Ivanov. The two poets are contrasted on the basis of a number of criteria: appearance, character, attitude to creativity, their political position, etc. In conclusion, the article concludes that N. Gumilev and A. Blok, acting as antipodes in the eyes of contemporaries, nevertheless, have similar qualities inherent in the Russian poet: love for the Motherland, dreaminess, nobility, chivalry, romantic nature, inner dualism, hatred of falsehood, lies and willingness to sacrifice for the sake of creativity. G. Ivanov, creating a literary portrait of poets, combines real features in their images with an artistic perception of their personality, thereby making their biography part of the myth of the Russian poet – prophet, for whom life, Russia and creativity are one.

We extend Lawvere-Pitts prop-categories (aka. hyperdoctrines) to develop a general framework for providing fibered algebraic semantics for general first-order logics. This framework includes a ...natural notion of substitution, which allows first-order logics to be considered as structural closure operators just as propositional logics are in abstract algebraic logic. We then establish an extension of the homomorphism theorem from universal algebra for generalized prop-categories and characterize two natural closure operators on the prop-categorical semantics. The first closes a class of structures (which are interpreted as morphisms of prop-categories) under the satisfaction of their common first-order theory and the second closes a class of prop-categories under their associated first-order consequence. It turns out that these closure operators have characterizations that closely mirror Birkhoff's characterization of the closure of a class of algebras under the satisfaction of their common equational theory and Blok and Jónsson's characterization of closure under equational consequence, respectively. These algebraic characterizations of the first-order closure operators are unique to the prop-categorical semantics. They do not have analogues, for example, in the Tarskian semantics for classical first-order logic. The prop-categories we consider are much more general than traditional intuitionistic prop-categories or triposes (i.e., topos representing indexed partially ordered sets). Nonetheless, to the best of our knowledge, our results are new, even when restricted to these special classes of prop-categories.
