To investigate factors influencing the long-term prognosis of patients with sacral Tarlov syndrome after nerve root cuff reconstruction.
A total of 42 patients with sacral Tarlov cysts who underwent ...nerve root cuff reconstruction at the First Medical Center of the Chinese PLA General Hospital between December 2015 and December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. All cases were confirmed using magnetic resonance imaging and pathology. All patients were followed up for 24 months after surgery. Improvement in self-evaluation of health was defined as a good prognosis, while a decline in self-evaluation of health was defined as a poor prognosis. The demographic characteristics and clinical data were compared between patients with good and poor prognoses. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed, taking poor prognosis as the dependent variable and parameters with P < 0.1 in the univariate analysis as independent variables to identify the risk factors.
Significant differences were observed in disease duration, lower limb weakness, defecation dysfunction, and defecation dysfunction between patients with good and poor prognoses. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that disease duration (Odds ratio: 0.961, 95% confidence interval: 0927–0.995) and defecation dysfunction (Odds ratio: 0.005, 95% confidence interval: 0.0–0.368) were independent risk factors for poor prognosis after nerve cuff reconstruction in patients with sacral Tarlov cysts (all P < 0.05).
Patients with sacral Tarlov cysts undergoing nerve root cuff reconstruction, particularly those with longer preoperative disease duration and dysuria, are at increased risk of poor long-term prognosis.

An outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) occurred in Wuhan, China; the epidemic is more widespread than initially estimated, with cases now confirmed in multiple countries.
The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the prevalence of comorbidities in the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infected patients and the risk of underlying diseases in severe patients compared to non-severe patients.
A literature search was conducted using the databases PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science through February 25, 2020. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using random-effects models.
Seven studies were included in the meta-analysis, including 1 576 infected patients. The results showed the most prevalent clinical symptom was fever (91.3%, 95% CI: 86–97%), followed by cough (67.7%, 95% CI: 59–76%), fatigue (51.0%, 95% CI: 34–68%) and dyspnea (30.4%, 95% CI: 21–40%). The most prevalent comorbidities were hypertension (21.1%, 95% CI: 13.0–27.2%) and diabetes (9.7%, 95% CI: 7.2–12.2%), followed by cardiovascular disease (8.4%, 95% CI: 3.8–13.8%) and respiratory system disease (1.5%, 95% CI: 0.9–2.1%). When compared between severe and non-severe patients, the pooled OR of hypertension, respiratory system disease, and cardiovascular disease were 2.36 (95% CI: 1.46–3.83), 2.46 (95% CI: 1.76–3.44) and 3.42 (95% CI: 1.88–6.22) respectively.
We assessed the prevalence of comorbidities in the COVID-19 patients and found that underlying disease, including hypertension, respiratory system disease and cardiovascular disease, may be risk factors for severe patients compared with non-severe patients.

151 hospitalized infants with congenital laryngeal developmental anomalies were retrospectively included to assess the correlation between positive radionuclide salivagram results and clinical features, and a multivariate logistic regression model was constructed to identify significant correlates that jointly predict positive radionuclide salivagram results.
Positive radionuclide salivagram results were significantly associated with fever, neurological diseases, congenital syndromes, and positive pathogenetic test results in univariate analysis. Positive radionuclide salivagram were significantly associated with fever (odds ratio OR = 3.494; 95% confidence interval CI 1.414–8.630; P = 0.007), neurological diseases (OR = 3.296; 95% CI 1.335–8.138; P = 0.010), and congenital syndromes (OR = 5.069, 95% CI 1.696–15.154; P = 0.004) in a multivariable logistic regression analysis.
Fever, concurrent neurological diseases, and concurrent congenital syndromes were discovered as clinical factors that could predict positive radionuclide salivagram results and salivary aspiration should be highly suspected in infants with these clinical factors of congenital laryngeal developmental anomalies.
Abstract
Background
We aimed to report the clinical characteristics of imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Jiangsu Province.
Methods
We retrospectively investigated the clinical, ...imaging, and laboratory characteristics of confirmed cases of COVID-19 with World Health Organization interim guidance in 3 grade IIIA hospitals of Jiangsu from 22 January to 14 February 2020. Real-time RT-PCR was used to detect the new coronavirus in respiratory samples.
Results
Of the 80 patients infected with COVID-19, 41 were female, with a median age of 46.1 years. Except for 3 severe patients, the rest of the 77 patients exhibited mild or moderate symptoms. Nine patients were unconfirmed until a third nucleic acid test; 38 cases had a history of chronic diseases. The main clinical manifestations of the patients were fever and cough, which accounted for 63 (78.75%) and 51 (63.75%) cases, respectively. Only 3 patients (3.75%) showed liver dysfunction. Imaging examination showed that 55 patients (68.75%) showed abnormal density shadow and 25 cases (31.25%) had no abnormal density shadow in the parenchyma of both lungs. Currently, 21 cases have been discharged from the hospital, and no patient died. The average length of stay for discharged patients was 8 days.
Conclusions
Compared with the cases in Wuhan, the cases in Jiangsu exhibited mild or moderate symptoms and no obvious gender susceptibility. The proportion of patients having liver dysfunction and abnormal CT imaging was relatively lower than that in Wuhan. Notably, infected patients may be falsely excluded based on 2 consecutively negative respiratory pathogenic nucleic acid test results.
Compared with the cases in Wuhan, 80 imported cases of COVID-19 in Jiangsu Province exhibited mild or moderate symptoms and no obvious gender susceptibility, lower proportion of liver dysfunction, and abnormal CT imaging and higher frequency of nucleic acid detection.
An outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection (2019 coronavirus disease, COVID-19) since December 2019, from Wuhan, China, has been posing a significant threat ...to global human health. The clinical features and outcomes of Chinese patients with COVID-19 have been widely reported. Increasing evidence has witnessed the frequent incident liver injury in COVID-19 patients, and it is often manifested as transient elevation of serum aminotransferases; however, the patients seldom have liver failure and obvious intrahepatic cholestasis, unless pre-existing advanced liver disease was present. The underlying mechanisms of liver injury in cases of COVID-19 might include psychological stress, systemic inflammation response, drug toxicity, and progression of pre-existing liver diseases. However, there is insufficient evidence for SARS-CoV-2 infected hepatocytes or virus-related liver injury in COVID-19 at present. The clinical, pathological and laboratory characteristics as well as underlying pathophysiology and etiology of liver injury in COVID-19 remain largely unclear. In this review, we highlight these important issues based on the recent developments in the field, for optimizing the management and treatment of liver injury in Chinese patients with COVID-19.

We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and CNKI (Chinese Database) for ...studies published as of March 2, 2020, and we searched references of identified articles. Studies were reviewed for methodological quality. A random-effects model was used to pool results. Heterogeneity was assessed using I2. Publication bias was assessed using Egger's test.
43 studies involving 3600 patients were included. Among COVID-19 patients, fever (83.3% 95% CI 78.4–87.7), cough (60.3% 54.2–66.3), and fatigue (38.0% 29.8–46.5) were the most common clinical symptoms. The most common laboratory abnormalities were elevated C-reactive protein (68.6% 58.2–78.2), decreased lymphocyte count (57.4% 44.8–69.5) and increased lactate dehydrogenase (51.6% 31.4–71.6). Ground-glass opacities (80.0% 67.3–90.4) and bilateral pneumonia (73.2% 63.4–82.1) were the most frequently reported findings on computed tomography. The overall estimated proportion of severe cases and case-fatality rate (CFR) was 25.6% (17.4–34.9) and 3.6% (1.1–7.2), respectively. CFR and laboratory abnormalities were higher in severe cases, patients from Wuhan, and older patients, but CFR did not differ by gender.
The majority of COVID-19 cases are symptomatic with a moderate CFR. Patients living in Wuhan, older patients, and those with medical comorbidities tend to have more severe clinical symptoms and higher CFR.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) has become a pandemic, but its reported characteristics and outcomes vary greatly amongst studies. We determined pooled estimates for clinical characteristics and ...outcomes in COVID‐19 patients including subgroups by disease severity (based on World Health Organization Interim Guidance Report or Infectious Disease Society of America/American Thoracic Society criteria) and by country/region. We searched Pubmed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, Chinese Medical Journal, and preprint databases from 1 January 2020 to 6 April 2020. Studies of laboratory‐confirmed COVID‐19 patients with relevant data were included. Two reviewers independently performed study selection and data extraction. From 6007 articles, 212 studies from 11 countries/regions involving 281 461 individuals were analyzed. Overall, mean age was 46.7 years, 51.8% were male, 22.9% had severe disease, and mortality was 5.6%. Underlying immunosuppression, diabetes, and malignancy were most strongly associated with severe COVID‐19 (coefficient = 53.9, 23.4, 23.4, respectively, all P < .0007), while older age, male gender, diabetes, and hypertension were also associated with higher mortality (coefficient = 0.05 per year, 5.1, 8.2, 6.99, respectively; P = .006‐.0002). Gastrointestinal (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain) and respiratory symptoms (shortness of breath, chest pain) were associated with severe COVID‐19, while pneumonia and end‐organ failure were associated with mortality. COVID‐19 is associated with a severe disease course in about 23% and mortality in about 6% of infected persons. Individuals with comorbidities and clinical features associated with severity should be monitored closely, and preventive efforts should especially target those with diabetes, malignancy, and immunosuppression.

Background: Stroke is the leading causes of death and disability in the world. Ischemic stroke covered 85% of stroke types. Based on the subtypes of ischemic stroke, lacunar ischemic stroke ...encompassed 20% of them. Knowing the characteristics help physicians to diagnose patients clinically and offer management to treat risk factors. Objective: This study aimed to know the characteristics of lacunar ischemic stroke based on patients risk factors, ischemic location on CT-scan, clinical syndrome, and NIHSS score. Methods: Using retrospective analytical study with cross sectional approach, medical record data from 2019-2022 were collected from RSUP DR. Hasan Sadikin Bandung. Results: From 60 patients, 35% (21) are 55-64 years old. Both sexes are equally distributed. 50 patients (83.3%) have multiple risk factors. Out of 60 patients, 57 (95%) have hypertension, 8 (13.3%) have diabetes mellitus, 44 (73.3%) have dyslipidemia, 6 (10%) have hyperuricemia, and 14 (23.3%) smoke. On admission, out of 60 patients, 34 (56.7%) have mild stroke, 23 (38.3%) have moderate stroke, 2 (3.3%) have moderate to severe stroke, and 1 (1.7%) has severe stroke. 44 (73.3%) out of 60 patients have pure motor hemiparesis. 41 (68.3%) out of 60 patients have basal ganglia ischemic. Conclusion: Lacunar ischemic stroke patients were equally distributed in sex with peak incidence occur between 55-64 years old. Most patients have multiple risk factors, basal ganglia lesion, pure motor hemiparesis, and history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, and smoking. On admission, most patients have mild stroke, followed by moderate stroke.
