The primary goal of the study is to form an effective model for countering external threats to the corporate security of engineering enterprises in the context of COVID-19. The priority of forming a ...methodological basis for ensuring the corporate security of enterprises today is determined primarily by two key circumstances. First, is the need to create safe conditions for development under the influence of COVID-19. Secondly, the importance of the role of corporations functioning today, which they already play in economic processes. The modeling methodology was applied to show the functioning of the system for counteracting external threats to the corporate security of engineering enterprises in the context of COVID-19. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the activities of engineering enterprises around the world, especially concerning foreign economic activity. Because of the study, the main stages and processes of countering external threats to the corporate security of engineering enterprises in the context of COVID-19 were identified.
The article is devoted to the study of the theoretical and methodological foundations for the development of a balanced scorecard for ensuring safe-oriented management of enterprises in the ...construction industry. The subject of the research is a set of theoretical, methodological and practical aspects to ensure the formation of the balanced scorecard development to ensure safe-oriented management of enterprises in the construction industry. The purpose of the article is to develop theoretical and methodological provisions and substantiate practical recommendations for the formation of a model of a balanced scorecard for ensuring safe-oriented management of enterprises in the construction industry, taking into account the interests of all groups of stakeholders. Objectives of the work: to analyze modern trends in the development of enterprises in the construction industry in Ukraine; to generalize approaches to the definition of the concept of safety-oriented management; explore and organize the elements of safety-oriented management; to develop a model of a balanced scorecard for ensuring safe-oriented management in the corporate security system of enterprises in the construction industry. In the course of the study, the following methods were used: abstract-logical analysis, theoretical generalization and systematization, system analysis. The paper analyzes the dynamics of the development of enterprises in the construction industry in Ukraine in the context of the introduction of quarantine measures related to COVID-19. Factors constraining construction activities have been identified, which include financial constraints, insufficient demand, labor shortage, and weather conditions. Approaches to the definition of security-oriented management have been generalized and the definition of security-oriented management in the corporate security system has been improved. The elements of safety-oriented management are systematized with the specification of such components as risk assessment, development and implementation of security policy, definition of requirements, establishment of control and monitoring of the external and internal environment. A model of a balanced scorecard for ensuring safe-oriented management of enterprises in the construction industry has been developed. Conclusions. In the course of the study, the expediency of forming a balanced system of indicators for ensuring safe-oriented management of enterprises in the construction industry was substantiated, taking into account the dynamics of the performance of construction work during 2019-2021. The elements of the system of safe-oriented management are presented in detail and the expediency of the formation of a balanced system of indicators for ensuring the safe-oriented management of enterprises in the construction industry is substantiated. The sequence of the formation of a balanced scorecard for ensuring safety-oriented management is detailed with the specification of a scorecard for assessing strategic goals for the components of a balanced scorecard: finance, customers, internal business processes, training and development.
This article demonstrates how the security of an extractive corporation is related to the governance of the lives and deaths of local inhabitants living in the area around a large coalmine and its ...railway in Colombia. Making legible the corporate security technologies that manage railway mortality and work along a spectrum from “hard” to “soft”, this article explores the productivity of corporate security in relation to the lives and deaths of local populations. Offering a specific lens on corporate railway security, it shows how corporate security technologies influence not only the lives of local residents but also their deaths. The findings also suggest that deaths and/or suicides be understood as both a product of and a productive force for corporate territorialization. Drawing on conceptualizations of ‘social death’ from genocide studies and Foucauldian ideas about death and technologies of power, I discuss the implications of corporate sovereignty (deciding over lives and deaths) as a technology of the corporate protection of mining infrastructure that normalizes corporate territorialization and justifies corporate social control.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the current practices in security convergence among and between corporate security and cybersecurity processes in commercial enterprises.
...Design/methodology/approach
This paper is the first phase in a planned multiphase project to better understand current practices in security optimization efforts being implemented by commercial organizations exploring means and methods to operate securely while reducing operating costs. The research questions being examined are: What are the general levels of interest in cybersecurity and corporate security convergence? How well do the perspectives on convergence align between organizations? To what extent are organizations pursuing convergence? and How are organizations achieving the anticipated outcomes from convergence?
Findings
In organizations, the evolution to a more optimized security structure, either merged or partnered, was traditionally due to unplanned or unforeseen events; e.g. a spin-off/acquisition, new security leadership or a negative security incident was the initiator. This is in contrast to a proactive management decision or formal plan to change or enhance the security structure for reasons that include reducing costs of operations and/or improving outcomes to reduce operational risks. The dominant exception was in response to regulatory requirements. Preliminary findings suggest that outcomes from converged organizations are not necessarily more optimized in situations that are organizationally merged under a single leader. Optimization may ultimately depend on the strength of relationships and openness to collaboration between management, cybersecurity and corporate security personnel.
Research limitations/implications
This report and the number of respondents to its survey do not support generalizable findings. There are too few in each category to make reliable predictions and in analysis, there was an insufficient quantity of responses in most categories to allow supportable conclusions to be drawn.
Practical implications
Practitioners may find useful contextual clues to their needs for convergence or in response to directives for convergence from this report on what is found in some other organizations.
Social implications
Improved effectiveness and/or reduced costs for organizational cybersecurity would be a useful social outcome as organizations become more efficient in the face of increasing levels of cyber security threats.
Originality/value
Convergence as a concept has been around for some time now in both the practice and research communities. It was initially promoted formally by ASIS International and ISACA in 2005. Yet there is no universally agreed-upon definition for the term or the practices undertaken to achieve it. In addition, the business drivers and practices undertaken to achieve it are still not fully understood. If convergence or optimization of converged operations offers a superior operational construct compared to other structures, it is incumbent to discover if there are measurable benefits. This research hopes to define the concept of security collaboration optimization more fully. The eventual goal is to develop and promote a tool useful for organizations to measure where they are on such a continuum.
