Russian forces have destroyed one-third of Ukraine’s freshwater storage since February 2022 to 2024. Potable, industrial and irrigation water supplies have been cut across the south and east of the country. Overall, social, economic and ecological damages are estimated in the tens of billions of $US, while the loss of Ukraine’s economic potential and necessary investments in restoration reach $600 billion. We consider the current eco-economic efficiency of irrigated crops, as well as damage to commercial and recreational fisheries including losses of littoral areas and spawning grounds. Alternative water supplies for the war-torn regions by construction of wells to tap groundwater are presented and justified; various scientific opinions and approaches to ecosystem management and options for the future reconstruction of the Kakhovka Reservoir are discussed; and, finally, strategic development options for the water sector are considered to ensure water security in the post-war development period.
The purpose of this study was to determine the development strategy of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) in Pematangsiantar City. The research model is a qualitative approach. The research ...design is field study and literature study. The focus of research to be achieved is the development strategy of Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises in Pematangsiantar City. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of the study show that UMKM entrepreneurs face obstacles in developing their businesses. The strategy of developing MSMEs in Pematangsiantar City is inseparable from the participation of the government and UMKM actors. The government should be able to provide assistance to UMKM actors, as well as socialization and training, and UMKM actors should be more creative and innovative in producing goods
The progress of hydrogen energy in terms of technologies and supply chains is appealing to member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Countries with the advantages of ...fossil fuel resources and existing infrastructure can export grey hydrogen energy until 2025. This could help expand hydrogen-related infrastructure and form a certain level of economies of scale to prepare for the next phase of development of blue and green hydrogen energy. From 2026 to 2030, ASEAN could shift to blue hydrogen energy exports with the help of carbon capture, utilization, and storage. However, the domestic applications of hydrogen energy will remain economically uncompetitive in most ASEAN countries. After 2030, as the levelized costs of electricity for renewables decline and the share of renewable energy power increases, the cost of hydrogen energy production from surplus electricity could become even lower. Consequently, green hydrogen energy will dominate domestic downstream energy applications and exports to overseas markets.
•By 2030, domestic applications of hydrogen energy in ASEAN remain uncompetitive.•Export of grey hydrogen is marginally competitive with existing infrastructure.•By 2030, as infrastructure scales up, ASEAN can export blue hydrogen using CCS.•After 2030, green hydrogen is competitive for domestic applications and exports.•Strategies for phased developments of hydrogen energy in ASEAN are thus advised.
This study analyzes the development strategy of superior Islamic education at Madrasah Aliyah Unggulan Amanatul Ummah (MAU Amanatul Ummah) Mojokerto. This article uses case study research to reveal ...the comprehensive and integrative efforts made by MAU Amanatul Ummah to realize the vision of superior, intact, and noble Islamic education. The results showed that the development strategy implemented by MAU Amanatul Ummah includes institutional strengthening, improving the quality of human resources, developing a holistic curriculum, varying learning programs, implementing a comprehensive evaluation system, and strengthening networks and partnerships. The success of MAU Amanatul Ummah is inseparable from the visionary and transformative leadership of the Kiai, as well as the commitment of the entire academic community to continue to innovate and pursue excellence. Although still facing some challenges, the experience of MAU Amanatul Ummah can be an inspiration and reference for the development of Islamic education in Indonesia, especially in the context of pesantren-based education. This research contributes to the development of Islamic education discourse and practice in Indonesia and opens space for further study.
As a province with the potential for coffee development, South Kalimantan is supported by very potential production land. When viewed from the perspective of the coffee plantation area, Banjar ...Regency ranks 5th in the coffee plantation area and 6th in production among 15 agricultural commodities, while if viewed from the production side, it is ranked 6th out of 15 agricultural commodities cultivated. The productivity figures for coffee plants in Banjar Regency are pretty high compared to the coffee productivity of the South Kalimantan Province region, namely 520 kg/ha/year or 0.52 tons/ha/year. However, the development of the coffee area and production in Banjar Regency over the last five years has been relatively stagnant, and there has been no significant growth. This research analyses internal and external factors and alternative strategies for developing coffee plantations in Banjar Regency. The research results show that the characteristics that determine the development of smallholder coffee plantations in Banjar Regency are significant efforts to increase farmers' income, support sustainable production, and optimize the potential of the coffee industry in Banjar Regency. The main priority alternative strategies for developing smallholder coffee plantations that have been identified include developing marketing strategies, encouraging innovation in the use of cultivation technology, building partnerships with MSMEs, and using available market information. Strategic steps that must be taken include counseling and technical training for farmers, empowering farmers through training programs and farmer groups, and partnerships with coffee processing MSMEs to increase the added value of products. Investment in cultivation technology to control coffee pests and diseases is also needed, while business capital support from local governments can stimulate industry growth. Better coordination in the supply chain and empowerment of farmer groups through training programs are essential components in achieving sustainable coffee production. The implementation of this strategy must pay attention to environmental, social and economic aspects to create a sustainable and quality coffee industry.
This article explains the development of Village Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in increasing original villagel income during the pandemic covid-19, which hurts the socio economic antisocialeconomicall ...communities. The research location at BUMDes in Kecamatan Bantimurung, Kabupaten Maros, uses survey research method with descriptive analysis approach using SWOT analysis technique. The selection of respondents was carried out by purposive sampling of 36 respondents using the proportional random sampling technique. The research data consisted of primary and secondary data regarding the conditions, and internal and external factors of BUMDes in Bantimurung. Data was collected using interview techniques with research instruments in the form of questionnaires. Based on the results of the study, it shows that BUMDes in Bantimurung is not yet fully optimal but can contribute to village the own-source revenue with business units owned and the lack of facilities and supervision from the sub-district government, so that the BUMDes strategy that can be applied is the growth and build strategy, it can be recommended that the development of BUMDes need support from the government through regulations, capital assistance and accompaniment. In addition, by carrying out good strategic planning for the development of BUMDes, in-depth observations and mapping of the local economic potential of villages, choosing business development, and expanding the network of cooperation partners and optimizing the role of cooperation partners and the community to jointly encourage the development of BUMDes products, strengthen markets and training for BUMDes managers on an ongoing basis.

One of the objectives of regulating the procurement and distribution of silkworm eggs based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number ...P.37/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/6/2017 is to ensure the fulfillment of the need for quality silkworm eggs in sufficient quantities and continuous. The aim of the research is to develop a silkworm business development strategy in East Java Province. The research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out using observation methods, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and surveys. The survey was conducted in 2 ways, namely interviews and filling out questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Force Field Analysis (FFA) approach, taking into account the driving factors (D) and inhibiting factors (H). The results showed that the main driving factor for the development of the silkworm business in East Java Province was the initiation of silkworm-based educational tourism destinations. On the other hand, the main inhibiting factor was the suboptimal role of the government. The conclusions of the research and policy recommendations based on the consideration of the main driving factors and the main inhibiting factors. The silkworm business development strategy in East Java Province can be implemented by increasing the government's role in formulating policies for the integrated development of silkworm cultivation, aiming for zero waste. This strategy will be complemented by the the concept of educational tourism involving community participation.
This introduction to the special issue deploys a framework, inspired by realist synthesis and introduced in Section 1, that aims to untangle the contexts, mechanisms, and outcomes associated with ...investments that link poverty reduction and rural prosperity within a broad agri-food systems perspective. Section 2 considers changes in contexts: Where are agricultural research investments most likely to be an engine of poverty reduction? Over the past 25 years, there have been profound changes in the development context of most countries, necessitating an update on strategic insights for research investment priorities relevant for the economic, political, social, environmental, and structural realities of the early 21st Century. Section 2 briefly surveys changes in these structural aspects of poverty and development processes in low-income countries, with particular attention to new drivers (e.g., urbanization, climate change) that will be of increasing salience in the coming decades. In Section 3, we turn to mechanisms: What are the plausible impact pathways and what evidence exists to test their plausibility? Poor farmers in the developing world are often the stated focus of public sector agricultural research. However, farmers are not the only potential beneficiaries of agricultural research; rural landless laborers, stakeholders along food value chains, and the urban poor can also be major beneficiaries of such research. Thus, there are multiple, interacting pathways through which agricultural research can contribute to reductions in poverty and associated livelihood vulnerabilities. This paper introduces an ex ante set of 18 plausible impact pathways from agricultural research to rural prosperity outcomes, employing bibliometric methods to assess the evidence underpinning causal links. In Section 4, we revisit the concept of desired impacts: When we seek poverty reduction, what does that mean and what measures are needed to demonstrate impact? The papers in this special issue are intended to yield insights to inform improvements in agricultural research that seeks to reduce poverty. History indicates that equity of distribution of gains matters hugely, and thus the questions of “who wins?” and “who loses?” must be addressed. Moreover, our understanding(s) of “poverty” and the intended outcomes of development investments have become much richer over the past 25 years, incorporating more nuance regarding gender, community differences, and fundamental reconsideration of the meaning of poverty and prosperity that are not captured by simple head count income or even living standard measures.
•AR4D is a systems problem, requiring consideration of shifting contexts, interconnected mechanisms, and complex impacts.•Fundamental changes in context of poverty reduction affect likelihood of success in a given setting.•Given these contextual features, it is necessary to broaden from fields and farms to encompass the food system.•Food system perspectives reveal many plausible pathways, from conventional AR4D investments in breeding to food policy research.•Poverty impacts emerge at scales far different from AR4D interventions, which creates M&E and impact assessment challenges.
It is very well known in the planning publications that when creating spacing development to a region or sub-region, it can be able to make more than an alternative consisting with the strategic ...directions overtaken from the actual development of region and the situational and developmental objectives needed. However, the difficulty facing the situational planning is in selecting one of these alternatives to be the best in order to make a balanced situational re-structure, and achieving the economic, social and civil objectives. The developmental situation elements in the regions and governorates, including (Karbala) impose themselves as situational power which implies the process of re-structural arrangement where the situational development is considered the active method for such arrangement. Thus, the difficulty of making decision in selecting any of the developmental alternatives seems easier for the situational planner as he has the programming methods and operations researches. The scientific method is used for making decision to suggest the developmental alternative which can achieve the strategic comprehension of the development elements and ensures the exploitation better to achieve the decree objectives. The method of decisions making theory is considered one scientific method which can be used in this regard. They mechanism of the decisions theory implies making more than one alternative to arrange the strategies and objectives in a matrix through which can make more than a case of making decision towards selecting the suitable situational strategy to achieve the objectives under the case of making decision brunt determined by the interdependent aspect in making decision. This necessitates knowledge of the developmental reality of the studied region or province. Therefore, the applied study of the developmental reality in the Karbala (region) province showed that there are two strategies that can be adopted to bring about spatial development in that province: the balanced growth strategy in the first, rational aspect drawn for sectors for development and the decision to maximize returns, and in the second aspect (cumulative) and the third (participatory), as well as the application proved the possibility of adopting the strategy of manufacturing and manufacturing for export in order to achieve a special type of goals at the lowest costs, whether in the case of certainty or risk, and this leaves the room clear for the decision maker to adopt any of the two strategies.
