The shifting nature of conflict has led to an unprecedented migration crisis that threatens the stability of host countries and the rights and safety of refugees. Civil unrest has led to the rise of ...a populist movement in every corner of the world that has upended the norms upon which civil society has long relied. The digital journal expanded its content reach, curating special series on topics ranging from education policy to gender equality.
Researchers commonly interpret effect sizes by applying benchmarks proposed by Jacob Cohen over a half century ago. However, effects that are small by Cohen’s standards are large relative to the ...impacts of most field-based interventions. These benchmarks also fail to consider important differences in study features, program costs, and scalability. In this article, I present five broad guidelines for interpreting effect sizes that are applicable across the social sciences. I then propose a more structured schema with new empirical benchmarks for interpreting a specific class of studies: causal research on education interventions with standardized achievement outcomes. Together, these tools provide a practical approach for incorporating study features, costs, and scalability into the process of interpreting the policy importance of effect sizes.
Though the national teen birth rate has declined since 1991, teen motherhood is still associated with educational and lifetime disparities among women who give birth at ages 15-19. Using the ...Understanding America Study data, I examine teen mothers' educational and financial outcomes with nearest-neighbor matching. My sample is 1,335 mothers with 118 teen mothers, and I define teen mothers as mothers who had children at 15-17 years old. Compared to mothers who did not have children at ages 15-17, I find marginal significance that teen mothers are less likely to graduate high school at 10 percentage points less. More significantly, I find teen mothers to be 32 percentage points less likely to have an associate degree and 25 percentage points less likely to have a Bachelor's Degree, both at the 99% confidence level. Moreover, teen mothers are 15 percent more likely to live in poverty. These results imply a need for more support for teen mothers to complete higher education degrees beyond high school.

Amid debates about the future of both higher education and Europeanisation, this book is the first full-length exploration of how Europe’s 35 ...million students are understood by key social actors across different nations. The various chapters compare and contrast conceptualisations in six nations, held by policymakers, higher education staff, media and students themselves. With an emphasis on students’ lived experiences, the authors provide new perspectives about how students are understood, and the extent to which European higher education is homogenising. They explore various prominent constructions of students – including as citizens, enthusiastic learners, future workers and objects of criticism.
Public-policy researcher Kathleen Vogel at Arizona State University in Tempe thinks that the main reason for these findings is that it's hard to persuade top-notch researchers to leave elite ...institutions, where they already have access to funding and resources. The effects were most pronounced in fields including biology, medicine and chemistry, which often require expensive equipment and large numbers of people to conduct research. Lili Yang, a higher-education policy researcher at the University of Hong Kong who has also measured productivity in YTT scholars, says that these findings are "super interesting" and reveal a nuanced picture of the roles held by returning scientists.
Education is the major factor for the development of the society and improvement in the country. Women education is important for leading a sustainable life and also balancing the outside ...environment. Women as humans have rights to support the country’s development and build a society. On this note, women empowerment through education is important as much as for men because women have all the potential to increase the growth of the country.
It is necessary to instill honesty, trust, and integrity in students at a young age, and the K-12 education years can be a significant part of this process. To achieve this, a robust policy is just ...as important as providing holistic instruction to promote academic integrity at all levels commencing from K-12 settings. A clear, contemplative and comprehensive academic integrity policy provides a solid foundation for instruction and helps create cultures of integrity in schools at all levels. Here, Hossain et al explore the current status of academic integrity policy and instruction in K-12 schools, particularly in developed English-speaking countries.
