RESUMENEn este trabajo estudiamos la documentación epigráfica generada por los hispanos desplazados a Gallia. A partir de ella determinaremos sus orígenes, sus centros de destino, y analizaremos las ...causas que motivaron sus desplazamientos. De igual modo, prestaremos atención al estudio de otros aspectos como las ocupaciones profesionales, la onomástica o las actividades que estos personajes desarrollaron en sus nuevos lugares de residencia. The Inscriptions of Israel/Palestine project is an online corpus of over four thousand inscriptions from Israel and Palestine, written in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Aramaic, dating roughly from the ...Persian Period to the Arab Conquest. The source files with inscription text and metadata are encoded using EpiDoc, a TEI customization widely used by epigraphers. As the project prepared to deposit its XML files in an institutional repository, it transformed them into a locally developed robust archival format. This paper evaluates these decisions against the FAIR metrics, using IIP as a test case. This allows us to suggest improvements for our own archival encoding as well as to see where EpiDoc and TEI enhance FAIRness and where they could provide more support. Finally, we suggest some ways to use FAIR metrics that are more amenable to TEI documents and corpora.
The paper analyzes the stone inscription in the Asia Minor city of Aphrodisias in the context of the religious pluralism of this environment at the time of the creation of the inscription. Therefore, ...the questions of the cultural context of the origin of the inscription in Aphrodisias, its dating and linguistic specificities are analyzed in particular, and an attempt is made to find an answer to the question of who the Godfearers are in question here.
For the first time, this book presents the complete collection of Greek inscriptions of Gebel el-Silsila East – Ancient Egypt’s largest and most important sandstone quarry, including lists of names ...and professions of individuals involved in the quarry expeditions. The inscriptions are described, illustrated and analysed and placed within their archaeological context based on careful documentation in situ with up-to-date methodology. The work makes substantial contributions in the form of novel and improved readings and interpretations of known texts and of the new publication of texts discovered through the fieldwork. It is the first volume of three dealing with Graeco-Roman inscriptions on the east bank, with the following two volumes to cover the demotic texts and quarry marks respectively.
Abstract
In this paper, the principle of semantic redundancy is examined as evidenced in the corpus of the Moesia Superior inscriptions (
Inscriptions de la Mésie supérieure
–
IMS
). The objective is ...to identify pleonastic phrases within the epigraphic material and to distinguish instances of unmotivated redundancy. The starting point is the observation made by Hofmann, Löfstedt, Herman, and others that this type of redundancy, contrary to the pragmatically motivated or “rhetoric” one, could reflect the ongoing semantic change in Vulgar Latin. Given the scarcity of semantic redundancy findings in the
IMS
corpus, this paper also serves as an introduction to this linguistically important topic.
