Paul Ricoeur, in his philosophical itinerary throughout the 20th century, analysed the major ontological, moral and linguistic issues that animated the philosophical, social and political debate in ...Europe. In this investigation, the French philosopher has always been confronted with the philosophy of Spinoza, whom he saw as a philosopher of life and man in his complex and sometimes mysterious situation. This approach is central to the question of the phenomenological search for the meaning of being in the world and with others.
Undoing Gender constitutes Judith Butler's recent reflections on gender and sexuality, focusing on new kinship, psychoanalysis and the incest taboo, transgender, intersex, diagnostic categories, ...social violence, and the tasks of social transformation. In terms that draw from feminist and queer theory, Butler considers the norms that govern--and fail to govern--gender and sexuality as they relate to the constraints on recognizable personhood. The book constitutes a reconsideration of her earlier view on gender performativity from Gender Trouble . In this work, the critique of gender norms is clearly situated within the framework of human persistence and survival. And to "do" one's gender in certain ways sometimes implies "undoing" dominant notions of personhood. She writes about the "New Gender Politics" that has emerged in recent years, a combination of movements concerned with transgender, transsexuality, intersex, and their complex relations to feminist and queer theory.
Judith Butler is Maxine Elliot Professor in the Departments of Rhetoric and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley. Among her books are Gender Trouble , Bodies That Matter , and Excitable Speech , all published by Routledge.

The purpose of this essay is to analyze religious food prescriptions and avoidances, to show, through a cross-cultural and comparative approach, the inner reason underlying such a wide range of ...different biases and rules sedimented through millennia of religious practices. Since food also transmits meanings, any food performs a semiotic power and shows how religious identities are embedded in everyday life. As a result, "we are what we eat," not only organically but in terms of beliefs and representations. For these reasons, food often functions as an identity marker that traces invisible borders between an in-group of people sharing the same religious identity or background, and an out-group of people with different identities. Therefore, in acquiring personal or social identity inside a larger community, food plays a relevant part in linking cultivation, culture, and worship, which is why this project highlights the relationship between religious food prescriptions and identity. People connect to their religious group through food patterns, and religious rules concerning food are often used to retain cultic and cultural identity. ultuale e culturale.
Studies of religious interaction in the fourth century AD have often assumed that the categories of 'pagan', 'Christian' and 'Jew' can be straightforwardly applied, and that we can assess the extent ...of Christianization in the Graeco-Roman period. In contrast, in this 2007 text, Dr Sandwell tackles the fundamental question of attitudes to religious identity by exploring how the Christian preacher John Chrysostom and the Graeco-Roman orator Libanius wrote about and understood issues of religious allegiance. By comparing the approaches of these men, who were living and working in Antioch at approximately the same time, she strives to get inside the process of religious interaction in a way not normally possible due to the dominance of Christian sources. In so doing she develops approaches to the study of Libanius' religion, the impact of John Chrysostom's preaching on his audiences and the importance of religious identity to fourth-century individuals.
