The sites of major media organizations -- CNN,USA Today, theGuardian, and others -- provide the public with much of the online news they consume. But although a large proportion of the top stories ...these sites disseminate cover politics, international relations, and economics, users of these sites show a preference (as evidenced by the most viewed stories) for news about sports, crime, entertainment, and weather. In this book, Pablo Boczkowski and Eugenia Mitchelstein examine this gap and consider the implications for the media industry and democratic life in the digital age.Drawing on analyses of more than 50,000 stories posted on twenty news sites in seven countries in North and South America and Western Europe, Boczkowski and Mitchelstein find that the gap in news preferences exists regardless of ideological orientation or national media culture. They show that it narrows in times of heightened political activity (including presidential elections or government crises) as readers feel compelled to inform themselves about public affairs but remains wide during times of normal political activity. Boczkowski and Mitchelstein also find that the gap is not affected by innovations in Web-native forms of storytelling such as blogs and user-generated content on mainstream news sites. Keeping the account of the news gap up to date, in the book's coda they extend the analysis through the 2012 U.S. presidential election. Drawing upon these findings, the authors explore the news gap's troubling consequences for the matrix that connects communication, technology, and politics in the digital age.

The decision by Popsci.com editors to shut off public comments in 2013 surprised many scholars of science journalism--particularly since the decision was justified in large part by reference to ...science communication scholarship. This commentary engages in a rhetorical analysis of the events surrounding the decision--in particular, the popularization of Anderson et al. (2014), the editorial stance at Popsci.com, and the content of blog comments leading up to the shutoff--to better appreciate what led to the foreclosure of a significant forum for protodeliberation on science research and policy.
Gökyüzünden çekilen görüntülerin haber odalarında işlenmesiyle habercilik alanına yeni bir soluk getiren drone’lar, gazetecilik pratiğinde yaygın bir hale gelmektedir. Drone’lar bulunduğu konum ...nedeniyle geleneksel kameraların yakalayamayacağı birçok görüntüyü kaydedebilme olanağına sahiptir. Dünyada habercilik alanında kendisini kabul ettiren drone’lar Türkiye’de de bir gazetecilik uygulaması olarak yaygınlık kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, drone haberciliğinin Türkiye’deki gelişim süreci incelenerek haber kuruluşlarındaki muhabirler için ifade ettiği anlam ve haber toplamadaki kullanımı araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada ulusal anlamdaki haber ajansları olan Anadolu Ajansı, Demirören Haber Ajansı, İhlas Haber Ajansı’nın habercilikte drone kullanım pratikleri incelenmiştir. Haber kuruluşlarında drone kullanan muhabirlerle yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılarak, betimsel analiz yöntemi neticesinde drone haberciliğinin günümüzdeki mevcut durumu ve gelecekte gazetecilikle ilişkisinin ne yönde olacağı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu bağlamda elde edilen bulgularda drone’un Türkiye’de habercilik alanında günden güne ağırlığını artırdığı, habercilik alanında oldukça olumlu katkılar sağladığı görülmüştür. Olumlu katkılarının yanı sıra drone’un güvenlik ve etik gibi konularda problemler çıkarabileceği ihtimali üzerinde de durulmuştur.
The drones that breathe new life into the field of journalism by processing the images taken from the sky in the news rooms have become more common in journalism practice. Drones have the ability to record many images due to their location that conventional cameras can not capture.The drones which has established itself in the field of journalism worldwide, has also become gained prevalence in Turkey as a journalism practice. This study examined the development process of drone journalism in Turkey; what means the drone journalism for the news reporters and the use of drone journalism in news gathering. In this context the usage practice of drone journalism of national news agencies Anadolu Agency, Demirören News Agency and İhlas News Agency has been investigated. A structured interview has been conducted with the reporters using the drone in the news organizations and the relationship between the current situation of drone journalism and the future of journalism has been tried to be explained by the descriptive analysis method. According to the findings obtained from the study, the drone become more effective in Turkey’s news institutions and has been shown to provide a very positive contribution to the field of journalism. In addition to the positive contributions, the possibility of drone being able to raise problems in security and ethics is also emphasized.

The sodal sdences, espedally anthropology, albeit timidly, seek to contribute epistemologically to this field. In this article we aim to present theoretical-methodological notes on biographical writing, notably the dissension between Bourdieu and Sartre. And, as a methodological alternative, we present Roland Barthes' discussions regarding the notion of polyphonic romance. Our goal is to build a privileged debate space in the interlocution among theories, sources, methods and approaches. And, after the construction of this communication space, we will discuss the ways of apprehending a personal experience and the forms of reassessment and reconstruction of the past from the relations among individuals, groups and society, so that the cultural and political mechanisms of their production can be explained, starting with the collective and institutional dimensions that act on narratives of affirmation / construction of history. Tanto entre o publico academico quanto entre o publico em geral, tal fenomeno mundial registra ocorrencia em diversas areas do conhedmento, dentre as quais podem-se destacar o jornalismo e a literatura. As rienrias sodais, espedalmente a antropologia, ainda de maneira timida, buscam contribuir epistemologicamente com esse campo. Neste artigo, objetivamos apresentar alguns apontamentos teorico-metodologicos a respeito da pesquisa e escrita biografica, notadamente o dissenso entre Bourdieu e Sartre. E, como alternativa metodologica, apresentamos as discussoes de Roland Barthes a respeito da nocao de romance polifonico. Nosso objetivo e construir um espaco de debate privilegiado na interlocucao entre teorias, fontes, metodos e abordagens. E, a partir da construcao desse espaco comunicadonal, discutiremos os modos de apreensao de uma experienda pessoal e as formas de reavaliacao e reconstrucao do passado a partir das relacoes entre individuos, grupos e sodedade, para que se possa explidtar os mecanismos culturais e politicos de sua producao, a partir de dimensoes coletivas e institudonais que atuam em narrativas de afirmacao/construcao da historia. Povodom pedeset godina izlazenja od (1966. do 2016.) napravljena je citatna analiza casopisa Acta stomatologica Croatica (ASCRO). Svrha: Namjera je bila utvrditi utjecaj promjena nastalih u ...posljednjih deset godina na vidljivost i citiranost ASCRO-a usporedbom dobivenih rezultata s rezultatima citatne analize ASCRO-a iz 2008. Materijali i metode: Uzorak je pribavljen pretrazivanjem baze podataka Web of Science Core Collection, a podatci su obradeni deskriptivnom statistikom. Rezultati: U ASCRO-u je objavljeno ukupno 1618 radova, a citirano je 477 za koje je zabiljezeno 903 citata. Svaki objavljeni rad citiran je prosjecno 0,6 puta, a svaki od citiranih radova dobio je prosjecno 1,9 citata. Najveci broj citata po radu je 20, a najvise citata po godini je 63 u 1991. Prema starosti rada najvise citata dobilo je 96 radova u trecoj godini poslije objavljivanja, a najstariji citirani radovi napisani su prije 45 godina. ASCRO je citiran u 302 casopisa, a najvise citata (19%) zabiljezeno je u Coll. Antropolu. Od ukupno 903 citata 41% citirali su samo hrvatski autori, 3,7% radova citirali su hrvatski i strani autori, a 55,3% radova citirali su samo strani autori. ASCRO su citirali autori iz 73 drzave--33 su europske, 19 je azijskih, 10 americkih, 9 africkih i 2 drzave Australije i Oceanije. Zakljucak: U svim analiziranim parametrima zabiljezen je rast kvalitete ASCRO-a u posljednjih deset godina u odnosu prema rezultatima dobivenima citatnom analizom 2008. Kljucne rijeci bibliometrija; stomatoloski casopisi; znanstveni casopisi; otvoreno dostupno izdavastvo Acta Stomatologica Croatica (ASCRO) citation analysis was made on the occasion of fifty years of publishing the journal (1966 to 2016). The aim of the study was to determine the impact of the changes that have been occurring over the last ten years on the visibility and citation of ASCRO by comparing the obtained results with the 2008 ASCRO citation analysis. Materials and Methods: The sample was obtained by searching the Web of Science Core Collection database, and the data were processed by descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 1,618 papers were published in ASCRO in which 477 papers were cited in 903 citations. Each published paper was cited on average 0.6 times, while each of the cited papers received 1.9 quotations on average. The largest number of citations per paper is 20, and the largest number of citations per year is 63 in 1991. According to age, 96 papers received the largest number of citations three years after they had been published, and the oldest cited papers are 45 years old. ASCRO was cited in 302 journals, and the largest number of citations (19%) was recorded in Collegium Antropologicum. Out of the total of 903 citations, 41% were made by Croatian authors. Croatian and foreign authors cited in 3.7% of papers, and in 55.3% of papers citations were made only by foreign authors. ASCRO is cited by authors from 73 countries, of which 33 are European, 19 are Asian, 10 American, 9 African and 2 authors come from Australia and Oceania. Conclusion: ASCRO's improvement in the quality has been recorded in all of the analyzed parameters over the past ten years with respect to the results obtained by citation analysis in 2008.
