This article investigates the relation between the religious concept imitatio dei and the popular cultural phenomenon, karaoke, which is extremely popular all around the world but, in particular, in ...Asia. Imitatio dei, the imitation of divinity, can be linked to karaoke by tracing both phenomena back to a philosophic-anthropological feature: imitatio prominentis, the imitation of outstanding persons. According to research findings in comparative religion, imitatio dei, the imitation of god(s) in cultic-religious contexts, is found in several religious rituals in diverse cultures—for example, in transition rituals such as birth, initiation, marriage, and funeral rituals. It can be inferred that imitatio dei is a sub-phenomenon of imitatio prominentis, the imitation of outstanding beings or persons. It can be shown that imitatio prominentis is a philosophic-anthropological datum or a part of human nature. Karaoke must be rendered as a popular cultural manifestation of imitatio prominentis. The investigation takes a transdisciplinary-synthetic approach interweaving research findings from cultural critique, cultural studies, art theory, philosophical anthropology, and comparative religious studies.

culture at an LGBT establishment in a city on the American west coast. This study focuses on the formation of community as well as identity through karaoke performance. Additionally, the application of Turino's framework of participatory and presentational performance was used to examine
how musical behaviours may encourage the formation of community and identity. Findings within this case study reveal the importance of the roles of the participants, the role of the facilitator, the agency of the individual, the fixity of musical forms, and musical texture to promote participatory
experiences.
Drawing on theories of dramaturgy and environmental psychology, this research intends to (1) develop a more comprehensive framework exploring the links of the marketing drivers and the consequences ...of hedonic experiences in the context of the leisure services, i.e. Karaoke Houses, (2) examine the effects of three experiential marketing elements (physical environment, employee service, and core service) on hedonic experience outcomes (emotions and word of mouth (WOM) intentions), and (3) test the mediating role of hedonic values (HVs) between the link of emotions and WOM intentions. With 441 valid questionnaires and using structural equation modelling analysis to test the hypotheses, this research found that (1) WOM referral intentions mainly result from both perceived service quality (SQ) and HV, with the former being more important than the latter. (2) While physical environment, employee service and core service simultaneously influence SQ, core service is the most influential determinant. (3) Experiential emotions are evoked by both physical (ambience and facilities) and social servicescapes (interactions with employees), while SQ mediates the relationship between core service and emotions. (4) Perceived HV fully mediates the effect of emotions on WOM.
