Purpose: The objective of this study was to determine the valuation between intellectual capital and human capital in SMEs in Ecuador.
Theoretical framework: Recent literature has reported ...interesting results on the application of organizational theoretical models and the knowledge society. However, there is still much to investigate and learn about organizational models and cultures in SMEs in Ecuador. (Saavedra & Saavedra, 2012)
Design/methodology/approach: A cross-sectional design with a qualitative approach was implemented. An empirical study is carried out where the intellectual capital of the SMEs is evaluated through human capital as a dependent variable, and three variables as independent: Values and attitudes, skills and abilities, through the application of a structured questionnaire through an interview with 378 businessmen. of the manufacturing, commerce and services sector of Ambato and Riobamba in Ecuador. It began with the descriptive analysis of the composition of the sample and the statistical results are evidenced through an analysis of means.
Findings: The results showed that according to the composition of the sample by company size, microenterprises have between 1 and 9 employees, small companies manage between 10 and 49 workers and medium-sized companies between 50 and 199 employees, being representative, such as drivers. of the economy in Ecuador. One problem is the relevant presence of microenterprises, which generally maintain low-quality jobs and minimum wages.
Research, Practical & Social implications: We suggest valuing human capital in SMEs . This research establishes a sense of belonging and commitment, which allows you to socialize with the client and develop your creativity. Likewise, the feeling of belonging establishes that the worker feels an integral part of the company, trusting the administrators, having freedom and autonomy to plan their work and avoiding high turnover, ensuring their permanence in the company. This value allows SMEs to develop and workers to increase their productivity by working in an appropriate environment.
Originality/value: The results showed that the SMEs businessman considers it relevant to hire an experienced worker who maintains personal development by involving his family, the company carries out social, cultural activities and specialized training that contributes to improving the development of the company, allowing the hiring of personnel with a graduate degree or specialization. technical, offering training with specific skills for the development of the company.

This paper is carried out under the method of documentary research and its objective is to analyze the approach to education by competencies, under the new demands of the knowledge society. To achieve this end, the work is structured as follows: 1. It indicates the historical context in which the proposal arises. 2. In view of the increased popularity of eGovernment as an important aspect of the development of Smart or Informational World Cities, we outline three research questions: (1) What is the state of ...maturity of eGovernments in Informational World Cities? (2) How good (or poor) is their usability? (3) How do they handle boundary documents? In order to clear up these issues empirically, we formulated an extended criteria model for the quantification of eGovernment maturity, analyzed the average quality of the information architecture of 31 identified Informational World Cities' official websites, and studied the processing of boundary documents, i.e. documents that serve different user groups. Our outcomes indicate that the maturity and usability levels of investigated cities are much differentiated, whereas the implementation of boundary documents in form of detailed information sheets is rather scarce. Considering the maturity of investigated eGovernments, there is still potential for improvement, especially regarding the aspects of communication and transaction services. The differences between the eGovernments' usability standards are substantial and the results are partially suboptimal. Our outcomes indicate that the usability levels retrieved from task-based evaluation are not directly linked to integration of boundary documents into the governmental websites.
•The maturity of 31 analyzed eGovernments is still suboptimal.•The best eGovernment (Barcelona, Spain) only rates 74% for all aspects investigated.•The usability of the investigated websites is adequate•The top-ranked world city in terms of usability is Vienna, Austria with 927 out of 1000 points.•Governmental websites are boundary documents and address different user groups.

What is our current understanding of innovation and how many types of innovation do we know? Broadly, innovation landscapes are characterized by well-established categories, such as product, process, ...organizational, and marketing innovation, explained and theorized in terms of their links with technological innovation. However global challenges and changes in the structure of knowledge production, have led to diverse innovations, and recognizing and classifying such innovations is more complex, fragmented, and geographically dispersed than ever before. The progressive incorporation of hidden and non-technological innovations, together with the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution, is contributing to change our understanding of innovation and its measurement. This paper provides an overview of the most salient types of innovation in recent decades, enabling both researchers and practitioners to navigate the complex web of innovation definitions and typologies. Innovation studies face the challenge of finding a comprehensive and inclusive definition that captures the significance of innovation, and overcoming the terminological ‘Babel'ization and increased fragmentation of the field of innovation research.
Knowledge creation and management is the central element of the knowledge-based economies that characterize advanced societies. The transition from the paradigm given by Francis Bacon "Knowledge is ...power" to "knowledge sharing and management is power" has shown that isolation does not produce value without sharing it to all the granular components of the company, in order to be, there, managed both vertically, between the layers of the company and especially horizontally, distributed, for the efficient management of each final component. The creation of knowledge is the result of the production and management of information, seen as representations of real events, produced or predicted, and these, in today's world are eminently related to the digital skills of those who produce and manage this information. Following the COVID 19 pandemic, there was a turning point in the use of the digital, online, offline or computational environment in response to pandemic challenges and the lack of these digital skills did not lead to the predicted and desired developments of the knowledge society. This article aims to show the need for the evolution of digital skills in the context of knowledge management, starting from digital literacy as the first stage of digital skills defined by and reaching the strategy imposed by the need for the COVID pandemic 19.
