Examining the data on Pavle Horvat published on the basis of scientific and profes-sional papers as well as newspaper articles shows two basic views of his work. The first in-volves the beginnings of ...his public and political activity, and concerns a young man who wished to actively participate in the then current political events in Slovenia but, for various reasons, most of all probably his approach, failed. The second view is much more intense and focuses on moments from Horvat’s life that do not show him in a positive light, but as a “bad guy” who created a false public image of himself. Based on the gathered data, it is difficult to complete both images and it is certainly necessary to conduct more research in order to answer all questions. The data gleaned from the daily press is partial, as is the data from the documents.
The second image, which can be seen from the gathered data, serves as the basis for forming the literary character of Pavle Horvat in the novel Fara sv. Ivana (The Parish of St John) by Miško Kranjec. In it, Horvat’s character is showed in a negative light, as a person who primarily fights for his personal interests under the guise of caring for Slovenians in Cro-atia. Such a literary formation may be based on documents and newspaper articles that were available to author Miško Kranjec, but could also be based on Kranjec’s subjective opinion, since it is obvious he knew Horvat personally and therefore immortalised him in his novel. Even though the character of Pavle Horvat is today almost unknown in Slovenian and Croa-tian historiography, it is precisely the literary formation of his character that prompts us to think about the less-known Slovenian-Croatian political relations in the interwar period and especially during World War II.
Thanks to the former Hungarian laws, Prekmurje is the region of Slovenia where a fairly compact Jewish community has been preserved for the longest time. The article focuses on the comparative ...analysis of the Jews in the literature of two main personalities of Prekmurje literature. They differ already in the naming of the people who are the subject of the discussion here. The first adresses Jews as »Židi«, the second as »Judi«. We researched what else separates them in literature and what might connect them. Miško Kranjec evolved from his originally Christian habitus and became a distinctly socially engaged writer, which also marked his attitude towards the Jews, whom his literary figures perceive as members of the exploitative class. As a Catholic priest, Jožef Smej is committed to the Gospel mission, to which also the Second Vatican Council dictates a dialogical stance towards related religions. The Jews in his literature are deeply religious and tragic figures.
Ljubljana, 19 May (STA) - Presenting the annual financial stability report of Banka Slovenije on Tuesday, the central bank's governor Marko Kranjec said that Slovenian banks were in a relatively good ...shape. He added however that there was still a chance of deterioration resulting from a negative feedback loop from the real sector. "Above all, they have to check thoroughly which debtors and projects posses the financial and economic capital and the knowledge to secure capital. Insolvency procedures are what is appropriate for debtors without prospects," Jasovic said. He stressed that financing debtors was vital if the recession is not to get worse.

Brdo pri Kranju, 10 November: Central bank governor Marko Kranjec called for the passage of an austerity bill for 2012 and said that the new government would have to come up with a credible ...stabilisation programme right after the December election as he addressed the annual Days of Slovenian Bankers in Brdo pri Kranju on Thursday 10 November. According to him, the situation in all eurozone countries in financial troubles did not calm down until their governments put forward credible stabilisation programmes. This is why Slovenia needs such a programme, Kranjec added. Mojmir Mrak regretfully established that Slovenia lost contact with the core eurozone countries in the past year, which has increased the risk of expensive borrowing. This demands a quick response, he added.
