This research develops and empirically tests a factor model for understanding college students' acceptance of Tablet PC (TPC) as a means to forecast, explain, and improve their usage pattern in ...education. The analysis involved more than 230 students from a regional Midwestern institution. Overall, our model exhibited a good fit with the data and provided satisfactory explanatory power for students' acceptance of TPC in an educational setting. Analysis of the results suggests a number of implications to educational institutions. Most notably are the need for programs aimed at influencing students' attitudes and perceptions towards TPC, creating an environment of a positive image surrounding the use of TPC on campus, and facilitating the use of TPC.
Sensitive data stored in laptops or other mobile devices can easily be lost, stolen, misplaced or corrupted, the remote backup storage technique is used to address these issues; however, the backup ...server could not be fully trusted, the data should be encrypted in advance. Although the key is more easily protected due to the smaller size compared with the backup data, it is still impossible for ordinary human to remember. A user-centred design data backup scheme is proposed using multi-factor authentication. The user firstly selects a symmetrical key and divides it into three shares, then destroys the key. The key can easily be reconstructed by combining the shares stored in the user's smart card and the laptop. Even if the smart card or laptop is lost, the key can still be recovered with the password and biometrics. The proposed scheme not only achieves the required security goals but also is more robust and practical.
In the industrial era, production equipment serves as an essential mother machine. In the global manufacturing industry, components such as laptop computers, mobile phones, and automotive parts all ...strive for aesthetic appearance. Taiwan’s machine tool industry plays a significant role globally. Faced with the constantly changing market environment, the development and competitive advantage of CNC machines are crucial topics for manufacturers. Domestic manufacturers of computer numerical control machines should move towards the integration of automated equipment to accommodate various advanced parts processing procedures. Smart manufacturing will become the trend of the industry in the future. This study invited experts from academia, industry, and research institutions to conduct expert interviews. Their opinions were compiled and analyzed, supplemented by fuzzy Delphi analysis to establish the development trends of various modules. The feasibility and demand of the product’s functional technology for industrial development were analyzed under three research dimensions and eight technical items. A total of 26 key sub-technical items were identified, achieving an expert consensus level of over 80. Furthermore, the importance ranking was analyzed using the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process, and the consistency tests were passed with C.I. < 0.1 and C.R. < 0.1. Finally, the obtained importance ranking of the hierarchical structure was used to predict the future development of computer numerical control machines through a technology roadmap, helping manufacturers use it as a reference model for future development trends to enhance market competitiveness.
Many school districts across the United States have enacted one-to-one (1:1) programs to boost students’ “21st Century Skills”. These programs provide a laptop or other personal digital device to ...every student, with the expectation that teachers will employ modern instructional processes and students will benefit from greater access to knowledge, tools, and both collaborative and individualized instruction. The transformative potential of 1:1, along with the varied contextual variables, makes program implementation difficult. This paper discusses the partial results of a year-long 1:1 laptop program evaluation in one Pennsylvania district. The study employs multiple methods to obtain an initial view of the programs’ impact on students. The study found that, overall, students did not have positive perceptions of the 1:1 program or its impacts, and a significant decline was found for many indicators between semesters. Regression analysis of the collected data suggests that greater use of the 1:1 laptops, along with a robust IT infrastructure, significantly predicts the perceived level of impact a 1:1 program has on students. The information obtained from this case study provides further insight into how attitudes, behavior, and perceptions of students are impacted by these programs.
The main objective of this research article is to select the best laptop model among six models available in the market. For this analysis, six laptop models are selected from different online ...shopping websites having different specifications after seeing the customer ratings. After doing some research, it is found that these laptop models are presently in demand and mostly preferred by the customers. So, an initiative is taken to propose the best laptop among these six models by implementing multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methodology. The selection process is done based on seven criteria (i.e., processor, hard disk capacity, operating system, RAM, screen size, brand, color). For this purpose, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is adopted for calculating the weightages of the criteria, and TOPSIS is used for selecting the best model. A preference ranking order of the six models is also proposed at the end indicating the best model to the worst. From the whole analysis, it is found that Model 4 came out to be the best model followed by Model 5 and Model 3.
Objectives
The aim was to assess whether the Knee Society Score, Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) were comparable in asymptomatic, healthy, individuals ...of different age, gender and ethnicity, across two remote continents. The purpose of this study was to establish normal population values for these scores using an electronic data collection system.
Hypothesis
There is no difference in clinical knee scores in an asymptomatic population when comparing age, gender and ethnicity, across two remote continents.
Methods
312 Australian and 314 Canadian citizens, aged 18–94 years, with no active knee pain, injury or pathology in the ipsilateral knee corresponding to their dominant arm, were evaluated. A knee examination was performed and participants completed an electronically administered questionnaire covering the subjective components of the knee scores. The cohorts were age- and gender-matched. Chi-square tests, Fisher’s exact test and Poisson regression models were used where appropriate, to investigate the association between knee scores, age, gender, ethnicity and nationality.
Results
There was a significant inverse relationship between age and all assessment tools. OKS recorded a significant difference between gender with females scoring on average 1% lower score. There was no significant difference between international cohorts when comparing all assessment tools.
Conclusions
An electronic, multi-centre data collection system can be effectively utilized to assess remote international cohorts. Differences in gender, age, ethnicity and nationality should be taken into consideration when using knee scores to compare to pathological patient scores. This study has established an electronic, normal control group for future studies using the Knee society, Oxford, and KOOS knee scores.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the significant challenges school administrators encountered leading a one-to-one laptop school and what vision school administrators have for ...one-to-one laptop use in the classroom. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology for this study was a case study approach. In total, 15 school administrators were interviewed from the Western region of the USA. Findings: Results from the study indicated that significant challenges for school administrators were budgeting and sustaining the initiative, and negotiating and setting expectations for instructional use with teachers. School administrators also envisioned one-to-one laptop use as a mean to enhance student-centered learning and inquiry. Research limitations/implications: Further research is needed which examines how school administrators make financial decisions in regards to sustaining one-on-one laptop initiatives and how they manage conflict with teachers in respect to one-to-one laptop instruction. Originality/value: Minimal literature exists which examines the challenges and vision of school technology leaders. Policy-makers and school administrators can use the findings to recreate teacher evaluation forms, develop conflict management strategies and teaching standards that are aligned and conducive to one-to-one laptop schools.
This study provides a comprehensive look at a constructivist one-to-one computing program's effects on teaching and learning practices as well as student learning achievements. The study participants ...were 476 fourth and fifth grade students and their teachers from four elementary schools from a school district in the Dallas, Texas, area. Findings indicated consistent and highly positive findings of the efficacy of a constructivist one-to-one computing program in terms of student math and reading achievement, differentiation in teaching and learning, higher student attendance, and decreased disciplinary actions, suggesting a range of possible educational benefits that can be achieved through a comprehensive one-to-one computing educational environment.
