Three Islamic organizations active in Shkoder opposed in March 2006 the initiative to put up Mother Teresa's statue in any of the town's main streets or squares. "She is a saint and, as such, her ...statue should not be put up in public squares, but only within religious sites," argued the representatives of the Islamic Charity Association, Muslim Forum, and the Muslim Intellectuals Association at the time. They said that these associations had nothing against Mother Teresa, but her statue should be put up in Catholic religious sites. These three associations also said that "putting up Mother Teresa's statue at the entrance of the town, as has been proposed, is a direct threat to the religious tolerance in Shkoder." They also said that "what has been happening in Shkoder is a strategy of certain individuals who work day and night to disturb the existing inter-religious peace in Shkoder." The organizations also mentioned previous incidents in this region, such as putting up a cross in the Bushat area, attempt to convert the mosque in the Rozafat Castle into a church, and the initiatives to appoint people from only one religion to important government positions.
The head of the Albanian Muslim Community is not interested in how Iannoulatos came to Albania and how he leads the Orthodox Church. In Muca's view, these are matters belonging to another religion in ...which he does not want to interfere. However, when mention is made of the percentages of Albanian religious communities, he cannot keep silent. Selim Muca says that the discussion of this question is out of place. "In my view, it is not normal now, when there is an admirable tolerance among our religious communities, to discuss figures of Albanian Muslims, Catholics, or Orthodox Christians," Muca says by phone. In his view, this kind of discussion is also in contravention of a joint statement signed by the heads of religious communities some time ago. Muca believes Iannoulatos's statements are violation, no matter how small, of the tolerance that exists among Albania's religious communities and says that these statements cannot change the Albanians' religious allegiances. "These statements can neither decrease, nor increase the numbers of Muslim or Orthodox believers. Religion has to do with people's free feelings, and a larger percentage of Muslims does not make Albania a typically Muslim nation, nor does a larger percentage of Catholics make it a Catholic nation," Muca says. "I do not take it upon myself to discuss what the Most Reverend says in the media, because these are questions that are not properly discussed by the head of a religious community. What I can say with full conviction is that there are admirable relations among our religious communities, and these do not depend on the percentages attributed to them," Muca added.

Albanian Muslim Community Chairman Haxhi Selim Muca said yesterday that he is against females wearing the niqab ferexheja; veil in public institutions. He said that he is in favour of female Muslim ...believers wearing the headscarf, but added that he does not favour the niqab. Haxhi Selim Muca said that there is confusion in understanding the meaning of niqab and the way a female believer should be dressed. He said that niqab means that the whole face is covered, and that it is not an obligation for female Muslim believers to cover their face. So he is in favour of headscarves in schools, but against the niqab. Selim Muca, the head of the Albanian Muslims, stressed that he is against the use of the niqab in school facilities. "They always make a mistake by constantly referring to the niqab. The niqab is used to cover the whole face and I am against it. Human beings should not cover their faces. Woman was not created by God to hide her face," Selim Muca said during an interview. His reaction came immediately after the authorities expelled a student wearing a headscarf at Durres University.
Tirana, 19 November dateline as received: President Alfred Moisiu met today with the head of Albanian Muslim community, Selim Muca, and appreciated the "precious contribution of Muslim belief to the ...preservation, consolidation and the transmission of a rare and ancient value of our people and society, that of religious harmony and co-habitation until...
Muslim Community Chairman Selim Muca and Ilir Kulla, director of the state committee of cults, have received death threats. In recent days the two high-ranking officials have received serious ...threats, which have forced the anti-terrorist forces of the Tirana police to take steps to protect them. The reason for the threats has been their open, public statements against the extremist current of salafist jihad in Albania. The current is represented by the people who tried to introduce changes to the statute of the Muslim Community in April. These changes would give this extreme current composed of people who have come to Albania from Arab countries in recent years official status as part of this community.
Papillary muscle rupture is a classical, but not frequent life-threatening complication of myocardial infarction. The only treatment consists in mitral valve surgical replacement. It should be performed in a hospital with specialized critical care and a cardiac surgery unit. The problem we are talking about in this article is the transfer of very instable patients in a specialized center before surgery. We also discuss the interest of mobile unit of cardiac assistance to manage patients in hospital without cardiac surgery then to transfer them. We discuss also the initial management in the cardiac surgery and critical care unit.
We have examined the mutational specificity of 1-nitroso-6-nitropyrene (1,6-NONP), an activated metabolite of the carcinogen 1,6-dinitropyrene, in the lacI gene of Escherichia coli strains which are ...deficient in nucleotide excision repair (strain NR6113, delta uvrB; strain CM6114, delta uvrB, plasmid pKM101). Separate collections of lacI- mutations and dominant lacI-d mutations, which contain DNA sequence alterations in the region of the lacI gene that encodes the DNA binding domain of the lacI repressor, were made following 1,6-NONP treatment. The DNA sequence of 418 mutations was determined, of which 228 were lacI- mutations and 190 were lacI-d mutations. Ninety three percent of the induced point mutations occurred at G:C residues.0 -(G:C) frameshifts were the dominant mutational class in the lacI- collections of both NR6113 and CM6114, and in the lacI-d collection of NR6113. The frameshift mutations occurred preferentially in runs of guanine residues and their frequency increased markedly with the length of the reiterated sequence. In strain CM6114, which contained the plasmid pKM101, there was a marked stimulation in the frequency of G:C-->T:A transversions that was particularly apparent in the lacI-d collection. We discuss models which might account for the apparent differences in mutational specificity resulting from the presence of the UmuD/C and MucA/B proteins. The results suggest that major classes of mutation are recovered in both the lacI- and lacI-d collections. However, the proportions of the major classes of mutations within the two collections can differ significantly. Depending on the genetic background of the host strain, the relative ratios of base substitutions to frameshift mutations in the lacI-d target can differ by almost an order of magnitude as compared with the lacI- target. This is primarily a function of the relative mutational target size of the different classes of mutation.
The role of MucAB and Escherichia coli UmuDC proteins in mutagenesis by 4-quinolone (4-Q) compared to that in UV mutagenesis has been studied in hisG428 Salmonella typhimurium strains. A low-copy ...plasmid carrying mucAB genes, but not umuDC, promotes reversion of the hisG428 mutation by the 4-Q ciprofloxacin. In contrast, a umuDC plasmid mediates the reversion of hisG428 by UV, although less efficiently than a mucAB one. In addition, a unique copy of mucAB genes is enough to promote UV mutagenesis, whereas, several copies of them are required to detect ciprofloxacin mutagenesis. Therefore, the mutagenic repair of quinolone damage by MucAB proteins is not a very efficient process. The presence of an umuD'C plasmid but not a mucA'B one, slightly increases the reversion of the hisG428 mutation by ciprofloxacin and this finding is further discussed. In contrast, MucA'B are still more active than UmuD'C proteins in UV mutagenesis. These results suggest that the enhanced processing of MucA compared to UmuD would not explain all functional differences between MucAB and UmuDC proteins in the error-prone DNA repair.
