A world-renowned Pomo basket weaver and medicine woman, Mabel McKay expressed her genius through her celebrated baskets, her Dreams, her cures, and the stories with which she kept her culture alive. ...She spent her life teaching others how the spirit speaks through the Dream, how the spirit heals, and how the spirit demands to be heard. Greg Sarris weaves together stories from Mabel McKay's life with an account of how he tried, and she resisted, telling her story straight—the white people's way. Sarris, an Indian of mixed-blood heritage, finds his own story in his search for Mabel McKay's. Beautifully narrated, Weaving the Dream initiates the reader into Pomo culture and demonstrates how a woman who worked most of her life in a cannery could become a great healer and an artist whose baskets were collected by the Smithsonian. Hearing Mabel McKay's life story, we see that distinctions between material and spiritual and between mundane and magical disappear. What remains is a timeless way of healing, of making art, and of being in the world. Sarris's new preface, written expressly for this edition, meditates on Mabel McKay's enduring legacy and the continued importance of her teachings.

This paper describes the Southern Pomo switch-reference system used in narrative texts. In this genre, switch-reference is shown to be canonical: suffixes applied to dependent verbs indicate whether ...or not the subject of the dependent verb is shared with a single TAM-bearing main verb. This system is compared with the switch-reference systems (or lack thereof) reported for the other six Pomoan languages. Only Kashaya Pomo is reported to have the same system. The other five Pomoan languages have different systems or none at all. It is asserted that switch-reference was not present in Proto-Pomo and developed in different ways in a subset of offspring languages through entirely internal changes without influence from non-Pomoan language contact. In those languages where switch-reference (whether canonical or not) developed, systems with dedicated bound switch-reference morphemes are hypothesized to have been elaborated around the same two Proto-Pomo suffixes, *-Vn and *-pʰi.

All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Incomplete lineage sorting can cause incongruencies of the overall species-level phylogenetic tree with the phylogenetic trees for individual genes or genomic segments. If these incongruencies are ...not accounted for, it is possible to incur several biases in species tree estimation. Here, we present a simple maximum likelihood approach that accounts for ancestral variation and incomplete lineage sorting. We use a POlymorphisms-aware phylogenetic MOdel (PoMo) that we have recently shown to efficiently estimate mutation rates and fixation biases from within and between-species variation data. We extend this model to perform efficient estimation of species trees. We test the performance of PoMo in several different scenarios of incomplete lineage sorting using simulations and compare it with existing methods both in accuracy and computational speed. In contrast to other approaches, our model does not use coalescent theory but is alíele frequency based. We show that PoMo is well suited for genome-wide species tree estimation and that on such data it is more accurate than previous approaches.
•An Eudesmic conjugate of manganese polyoxomolybdate (EU2POMo) was synthesized.•The optimized structural properties of POMo & EU2POMo were investigated by DFT.•Eu2POMo has appropriate anti-cancer ...activity against breast cancer cell lines.•Eu2POMo was safer than free POMo on HUVEC cell line (normal cells).•Eu2POMo has improved the apoptosis ratio in compare to the free POMo.
In this work, trimethylated gallic acid (Eudesmic acid, EU) was selected for the synthesis of an organo-conjugate (EU2POMo) from TRIS modified Anderson-type manganese polyoxomolybdate (POMo) for the first time.
EU2POMo was synthesized through amide bonding between POMo and EU using carbodiimide coupling strategy. Some of the quantum chemical properties of POMo and EU2POMo beside the DFT and TD-DFT calculations were done using the Gaussian program. The cytotoxicity was studied on breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231) comparing the Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cell line (HUVEC) using the MTT method. The cellular uptake was determined using the ICP-MS method, and the apoptosis value was checked by the flow cytometry technique on the MDA-MB-231 cell line.
The structure was approved by FTIR, NMR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. Quantum chemical calculations proposed better stability and lower chemical potential for EU2POMo, and internal energy and dipole moment were higher in the EU2POMo. Both POMo and EU2POMo showed reasonable anti-cancer effects on breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231), and the results were somewhat in favor of POMo. Interestingly, EU2POMo showed no significant cytotoxicity on the HUVEC and was safer than POMo. Cellular uptake (33.5% versus 29.2%) and apoptosis value (28% versus 15%) in the case of EU2POMo were slightly better than POMo.
In conclusion, this study aimed to introduce a novel, potent and safe anti-cancer Anderson type polyoxometalate to cancer studies. Based on results, this conjugate has sufficient potential for further cancer chemotherapy assessments, specifically breast cancer.

This study aimed to develop novel pH-sensitive Glucosamine (Glu) targeted Polydopamine (PDA) coated mesoporous silica (SBA-15) nanoparticles (NPs) for selective delivery of anticancer Anderson-type ...manganese polyoxomolybdate (POMo) to breast cancer.
The POMo@SBA-PDA-Glu NPs were prepared via direct hydrothermal synthesis of SBA, POMo loading, in situ PDA post functionalization, and Glu anchoring; the chemical structures were fully studied by different characterisation methods. The anticancer activity was studied by MTT method and Annexin V-FITC apoptosis detection kit.
The optimised NPs had a hydrodynamic size (HS) of 195 nm, a zeta potential (ZP) of −18.9 mV, a loading content percent (LC%) of 45%, and a pH-responsive release profile. The targeted NPs showed increased anticancer activity against breast cancer cell lines compared to the free POMo with the highest cellular uptake and apoptosis level in the MDA-MB-231 cells.
POMo@SBA-PDA-Glu NPs could be a promising anticancer candidate for further studies.
