Law and film is a quickly-developing interdisciplinary branch which has recently been getting more and more attention, while being almost completely ignored in the Republic of Croatia. The themes ...that law and film cover are various. Firstly, it can be observed how law and film affect each other and how that interrelation affects the opinions of citizens – i.e. the progress of legal culture overall. Also, film can be observed as a sort of source of law, since certain films and/or scenes can serve as case studies. In this topic there will be mention of several famous films which are entirely (or most of the time) set in a courtroom (so-called courtroom dramas).
This paper offers an analysis of the youth magazine Plavi vjesnik (1954–1973) and a number of discussions on the topic of youth and popular culture published at the same time. By doing so, it aims to ...contribute to the study of the Yugoslav culture that emerged in the post-WWII period not only by mapping a previously unresearched field, but also by underlining the exceptional significance of the field of the popular and the category of youth for the broader issue of the Yugoslav socialist project. Based on an examination of specific articulations of the figure of youth and the audience of popular culture, this paper shows that youth came to function as the privileged space for negotiating the tensions that characterized the relationship between the Yugoslav vision of modernity and the developing field of the popular.
The influences of popular culture are noticed in all aspects of human life, including art. Given the inadequate exploration of the effect of popular culture in the context of children’s literature, ...the paper discusses its interaction with contemporary Croatian children’s novels. Specifically, the incursion of popular culture in children’s literature was observed in a corpus of 12 children’s novels published since 1970, that is, from the time when the pull of popular culture was gaining force in the context of postmodernist change. Therefore, elements of popular culture are introduced in children’s novels deliberately to make the titles interesting and attractive to child recipients. However, authors sometimes introduce such features unintentionally, simply because they are immersed in the context of popular culture themselves. The focus of the paper is on the emergence of new characters, constructs of popular culture, whose inclusion in the range of characters of children’s literature is inspired by the most prominent popular-cultural feature – spectacularity. Thus, the paper identifies these characters, as well as the ways in which contemporary children’s novels shape them.
