Universalities and intriguing analogies in the statistics of avalanches are revealed for three physical systems defined on largely different length and energy scales. Earthquakes induced by tectonic ...scale dynamics, micro-scale level quakes observed from slipping crystallographic planes in metals and a one-dimensional, room-scale spring-block type Burridge-Knopoff model is studied from similar statistical viewpoints. The validity of the Gutenberg-Richter law for the probability density of the energies dissipated in the avalanches is proven for all three systems. By analysing data for three different seismic zones and performing acoustic detection for different Zn samples under deformation, universality for the involved scaling exponent is revealed. With proper parameter choices the 1D Burridge-Knopoff model is able to reproduce the same scaling law. The recurrence times of earthquakes and micro-quakes with magnitudes above a given threshold present again similar distributions and striking quantitative similarities. However, the 1D Burridge-Knopoff model cannot account for the correlations observed in such statistics.
S pravilnim izborom parametara 1D Burridge-Knopoffovmodel može reproducirati isti zakon skaliranja. Vremena ponavljanja potresa i mikro-potresa s magnitudama iznad zadanog praga opet predstavljaju slične distribucije i zapanjujuće kvantitativne sličnosti.

Based on field research and data from the available literature, we believe that the collapsed holes in the area of Borojević and Mečenčani were formed in two ways. Most of them were caused by the liquefaction of the soil caused by earthquakes, and a smaller part was caused by the action of suffusion that followed the construction of a large water pumping station at Pašino vrelo. Finally, a suggestion was made on how to prevent the formation of new collapsed holes. Following current events and possible consequences, we analyze the pedological characteristics and damage of agricultural land in the area of collapsed holes. Finally, we recommend agro-ameliorative measures for the formation and rational use of a new productive soil surface layer of garden, arable land and grassland.

se radu donose podaci o potresima
pronađeni u zapisnicima franjevačkih samostana na području Slavonije tijekom
18. i prve polovice 19. stoljeća. Podaci su izneseni kronološkim redom, onako ...kako
se spominju u ljetopisima u Brodu, Našicama, Osijeku, Šarengradu i Vukovaru, i
to i u latinskom originalu i u hrvatskom prijevodu.
čak i smjer širenja u nekim slučajevima. Rad tako obuhvaća građu koja se može
koristiti u interdisciplinarnim istraživanjima povijesti seizmičke aktivnosti
na području Slavonije na kraju ranog novog vijeka.
During the 18th and the 19th centuries, Franciscans in the monasteries throughout Slavonia wrote the so-called protocolla, chronicles that recorded not only ecclesiastical, but also secular events. Among the themes that some of the writers chose to put down for posterity, descriptions of earthquakes seem particularly interesting today, in 2020, when Croatia has witnessed the devastating effects they sometimes cause. This paper chronologically lists every description found in the
remaining chronicles from the monasteries in Brod, Našice, Osijek, Šarengrad and Vukovar, between the years 1739 and 1835, both in the original Latin, and in translation into Croatian. These descriptions vary in the amount of data they provide: sometimes they only, if at all,
record that an earthquake happened on a certain date (and sometimes they even differ among themselves on the exact date), but sometimes they
record the exact time, the number of intervals, the intensity, the damage and the direction of expansion of an earthquake. The paper also analyses the terminology used in the cited texts, to facilitate the reader’s understanding and the mutual comparison of these descriptions, as well as the comparison with today’s methods of describing earthquakes. For this purpose, it also includes three descriptions from the territory outside modern Croatia: two from Hungary and one from Spain. In this way, the paper produces valuable material for interdisciplinary research dedicated to the history of seismic activities in Slavonia in the late modern period.
The volume (‘(Un)adapted’) contains twenty-one chapters dealing with natural disasters. The chapters describe various research findings and examples of the use of modern technologies in cases of ...natural disasters. The volume covers various topics such as earthquakes, floods, avalanches, droughts, GIS support, and web applications.
