Current approaches to Systems Medicine are mostly research-focused and concentrate on emergent properties on the cellular level (e.g., cancer) based on descriptions of molecular complexity. Initial ...steps to integrate tissue, organ and organism levels exist and must extend to environmental and social systems even if not every aspect of humanity can be represented (yet). Systems Medicine provides a paradigm shift from parts-oriented reductionism to process-oriented holism developing a valid causal theory of how ‘bio’, ‘psycho’ and ‘socio’ actually relate. Delivering on this conceptual progress will require similar paradigm shifts in the organisation of healthcare and public health.

In this paper, adopting the necessary evolutionary economics perspective, we investigate how manufacturing strategy emerges as a result of a coordinated search in the three correlated fitness ...landscapes of product, production and supply chain decisions. In a complex evolving systems view, product, production system and supply chain requirements, which are used to define manufacturing strategy performance objectives, are also thought to constitute, in a dialectic fashion, decision variables for achieving these objectives. Using a system dynamics simulation model of a resource-based view of operations-driven competition, we have investigated the effect of two contextual variables (underlying pattern of interaction among tasks/decisions, and limits of managerial ability), and three organisational structure ones (tasks/decision decomposition, incentives system, and degree of vertical hierarchy) on the efficiency and effectives of the overall manufacturing strategy process. The contribution of the paper is twofold: first, simulation results justify empirical views and provide new insights on the effect of organisation in the manufacturing strategy as an evolutionary process, and secondly, by combining complex systems science with the resource-based view of strategic management, it presents a novel methodological stance for investigating complex issues involved in this area.
The new stake in design today is to examine the global purpose of the design activities. In this perspective, project design management not only consists in allocating resources but also in ...stimulating collaboration among the actors involved in the project. Objective is to increase the performance of design teams. In this paper, we focus on factors influencing performance of the design process. Elements of the design performance are identified and an integrated product-process-organisation model is developed to manage design process. UML models of a prototype of software integrating this model to help decision makers and an example of specific GUI are also provided
The motto “Free of charge, free of trouble?! More on the theory of colour on green, gold, grey” of the ninth consortium day of the Friedrich-Althoff-Consortium e. V. tempted more than 140 interested persons to come to Potsdam. The event offered local institutions a platform for reports about practical experiences in dealing with electronic material accessible free of charge. The range of lectures covered subjects as e.g. the identification of open-access rights in alliance and national licences, the problems and achievements resulting from the running of institutional repositories, the aspects of obtaining rights for the storage of internet sources as well as the opportunities of a systematic and cooperative proof of freely accessible full-texts.
Hrvatskoj kulturnoj javnosti je poznat rad crkvenog školskog zavoda u
Đakovu, 1806. osnovonog "Lyceum episcopale", gdje su se školovali svećenici Bosansko-đakovačke i srijemske biskupije. Škola je do ...1849. imala dva odsjeka, filozofski i teološki; od 1849. do 1899. je pripravni dvogodišnji tečaj zamijenio filozofski odsjek i slijedio nastavni program 7. i 8. razreda reorganizirane gimnazije s nekim sadržajima filozofskog školovanja. Rad pak bogoslovne škole slavonskih i podunavskih franjevaca Provincije sv. Vukovarski je odjel u prvoj polovici 19. st. pružao studentima nastavu treće i četvrte godine, a u drugoj polovici do 1885. sadržaj prve i druge nastavne godine.
Strategic information systems planning (SISP) allows an organisation to determine a portfolio of computer-based applications to help it achieve its business objectives. IBM's business system planning ...for strategic alignment (BSP/SA) is an important technique for developing a strategic plan for an entire company's information resource. BSP/SA has been described in terms of stages and the specific tasks within them. Tasks are usually done manually and require some experience. This work was thus aimed at presenting a computer-based application that automates two of the most important tasks in BSP/SA methodology: process-organisation matrix (POM) and processes-data classes-matrix (PDM). Special emphasis was placed on analysing, designing and implementing systems development life-cycle for developing the software. An important part of the analysis consisted of conducting a literature review and the semi-structured interviews with some experts in SISP. A special contribution of the present work is the design and implementation of statistical reports associated with each matrix. Automating this task has facilitated students being able to analyse POM and PDM during SISP workshops forming part of the Information Systems Management course (Systems Engineering, Universidad Nacional de Colombia). Results arising from the workshops have also been improved.
This paper presents a transaction cost analysis of the internal business processes of firms. Business processes are collections of activities which are technologically or managerially linked so that ...they jointly affect value added. Their organisation is characterised by their 'architecture'-the allocation of responsibilities amongst individuals and groups and communication between them for information and coordination-and their incentive structure. The overall costs of organisation are determined by losses due to imperfect motivation of process members, which flows from the incentive structure, and imperfect information and coordination, which flow from the architecture, together with the resource costs associated with incentives and architecture. Perfect motivation corresponds to 'team behaviour' and a quantitative model, based on team theory, indicates how the best architecture depends on the degree interaction between activities comprising the business process.
