Frutexites-like structures were recorded in small bioconstructions from Recent and Pleistocene marine caves. The skeletal/microbialite frameworks hosting Frutexites form in cryptic environments ...characterized by poor light availability and reduced water circulation leading to confinement, oligotrophic conditions and the development of typical cave communities. Biostalactites and biotic crusts develop in the more confined parts of the both Recent and Pleistocene caves. They are composed of skeletal organisms engulfed in fine micrite sediments deposited in situ via microbial metabolic activity. The Frutexites, composed of Iron and Manganese oxides, are confined to microcavities or microfractures of the bioconstructions. They grow from an original discontinuity surface into the surrounding consolidated micritic sediments. A model based on the increase of the microporosity of micritic sediments due to the dissolution of the original material and precipitation of ferromanganesiferous compounds was proposed. This process occurs during the syndepositional diagenetic stage due to the intrusion in the bioconstruction framework of acidic continental water rich in Iron and Manganese. Mesophilic Fe–Mn autotrophic and chemoheterotrophic bacteria flourish on the microcavities and induce the precipitation of Fe and Mn oxides.

In times of crises, critical thinking needs to be maintained and fostered. This volume on critical political theory in the coronavirus pandemic brings together 13 contributions that offer a variety of perspectives on the interrelationship between critique and crisis. What are the consequences of the current crisis for critical political thinking—and what contribution can critical theory offer to our understanding of current challenges? With contributions by Clara Arnold, Simon Duncker, Oliver Flügel-Martinsen, Lea Jonas, Kristoffer Klement, Jamila Maldous, Noah Marschner, Samia Mohammed, Malte Pasler, Demokrat Ramadani, Gerrit Tiefenthal, Andreas Vasilache and Nele Weiher.

Mit Beiträgen von Prof. Dr. Michael S. Abstract Historically, crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic have prompted politicians to break up dead-locked structures and implement far-reaching reforms. Path dependencies can be interrupted in times of crisis. This volume examines the social impact of the current pandemic as well as both the long-term challenges it poses and the potential it offers from the perspective of economic and business ethics. How has the COVID-19 crisis changed the balance of power between the state, markets and business? What are the obligations of companies during a pandemic? To what extent are the fight against the coronavirus crisis and that against the climate crisis compatible? What role can and should business ethics play in times of crisis? With contributions by Prof. Dr. Michael S. Aßländer; Prof. Dr. Jörg Althammer; Prof. Dr. Martin Büscher; Niklas Dummer, M.A.; Dr. habil. The peninsula of San Vito Lo Capo, 50 km West of Palermo (Sicily), is characterised by the presence of a wide set of evidences of past sea level changes, such as marine terraces, notches, marine and ...coastal caves with phreatic overgrowths on speleothems, and continental and marine deposits. The exceptional good preservation of these landforms and deposits has been used by different authors for the reconstruction of sea level changes and neotectonic movements. Among the many caves discussed by previous authors, most are of marine origin and can preserve signs of old sea level highstands such as notches and marine or continental sediments. However, two caves in particular, Fantasma Cave and Falesia Rocca Rumena I cave, show evidences to be flank margin caves. Both caves are records of rising and falling sea level, and their position and the correlation with marine terraces suggest them to be around 0.8 and 1.1–1.2 Ma old respectively. This study shows that not all sea level high stands are preserved in the stratigraphical and geomorphological record. Keywords: telogenetic limestones, coastal karst, mixing zone speleogenesis, sea level changes, Quaternary.
This paper aims at elaborating a new theoretical framework and a new methodology in order to identify the location of history discipline endorsed by the East European communist regimes between ...scholarly production and propaganda. The case study considered is the historiography produced by the History Institute of the Romanian Communist Party (Isisp) during the Ceausescu regime (1965-1989). This highly ideological, but still polymorphic historiography is placed into the context of the 19th and 20th centuries’ professionalization of history in Europe. Since historiography has been the main mean to develop nationalist messages, this paper is also a contribution to the study of nationalism. Since history-writing is a myth-breaker but also a (national) myths-maker, the theory considers that the Isisp historians were elaborating an academic, scholarly standard while performing the mandatory metanarrative canon imposed by the communist Party, creating a double-set of coherence, for the party and for their own profession. The theory implies also a methodology of analysis which integrates the study of the history-writings, considered in diachronical perspective, together with the collective biographies of Isisp and of its historians.
