The semantic transitivity of French verbs under the test of family resemblance
. The question of semantic transitivity of verbs has mainly been considered by typologists in order to identify cross-language invariants. The “transitive prototype” aggregates other verbal constructions by virtue of the transitivity continuum but this notion does not help to understand how these other constructions are deviant. Our approach aims at proving that it is possible to define semantic transitivity not as a property of a verb or a construction but as a property of a class of verbs with homogeneous semantics (here contact verbs from LVF) classified according to “family resemblance” criteria. The transitive subclasses are the result of a multivariate statistical analysis based on selected criteria valued to obtain a transitive score.
probablement
The semantic behaviour of
sans doute
and
probablement
in concessive and ironic contexts: further evidence showing that
sans doute
and
probablement
are not synonymous.
In this paper, we intend to bring further evidence for the view defended in Bourmayan & Ashino (2021) that
sans doute
and
probablement
are not synonymous. Thus, it turns out that
sans doute
can be easily inserted in concessive structures and ironic utterances, unlike
probablement
. We show that the semantic analysis offered by Bourmayan & Ashino (2021) makes clear that
sans doute
is a marker of dialogic agreement, while this is not true for
probablement
. This semantic feature of
sans doute
is crucial, for in concessive contexts as well as in ironic contexts, the marker allows the speaker to ostensibly agree so as to distance herself or himself from it all the better: in the case of concession, the speaker agrees with the words of another enunciator while dismissing the argumentative strength of the content; in the case of irony, the speaker is pretending that she or he supports what the other says.

Être for
aller
in European French.
The objective of the paper is to examine the variation within the paradigm of aller (‘go’) between the composed forms
avoir été
(‘have been’) and
être allé
(‘have gone’) in European French (e.g.
j’ai été / je suis allé à la piscine
‘I have been / have gone to the swimming pool’). After presenting the metalinguistic discourses on the issue, we trace back the origin and dissemination of
avoir été
in past contexts where it may alternate with
être allé
. This will inform us about the chronology of
avoir été
’s integration within the paradigm of
aller
and its possible semantic reanalysis, as well as the present state of the variation between both constructions. We will uncover the semantico-pragmatic path of
avoir été
that allowed for its extension to past contexts of
aller
. Then we will deal with the impact of the norm on linguistic uses through speakers’ judgments in order to assess the influence of normative discourses on the development of
avoir été
as a past variant of
aller
. Thus, despite a semantic change and reanalysis permitting
être
(‘be’) to develop similar uses as
aller
, both variants are still striving in contemporary French spoken in Europe and alternates according to a diaphasic distribution.
A case of evolving reference chain… with implicit anaphora
. In an excerpt from
The Sorrows of Young Werther
, “Every tree, every bush, is full of flowers; and one might wish himself transformed into a butterfly, to float about in this ocean of perfume, and find his whole existence in it” (translation:
https://www.gutenberg.org/files/2527/2527-h/2527-h.htm
), we will study the way the clauses are linked and embedded, and from this point of view, we would like to deal with a question, with multiple faces, concerning referential and logical semantics, on the one hand, and textual semantics, on the other. The question posed by this “evolving context” (we call it that way to emphasize the double aspect of our approach and our analyzes, referential and textual, con- and cotextual) is the way in which the evolutionary process, of which we will first study the referential and modal aspect, both takes place in and thanks to the text and has repercussions on the sequence of clauses which represent it. From this point of view, and in the epistemological background, the question of the “syntax” useful for studying this concatenation in “for” in this type of co(n)text will arise.
The aim of this paper is to study the development of the phonetic form and semantics of the word salash, to determine its origin and distribution in the dialects of the Carpathian area as well as in ...the continuum of Balkan and Slavic languages. The work is carried out in line with the traditional problems of Balkan and Carpathian studies, the ultimate goal of which is to describe the semantics and study the origin of the idioethnic cultural vocabulary of the ancient pastoral population of this ethnolinguistic continuum, and to understand the ways and the time of formation of this ethnocultural phenomenon. General, special, and dialect dictionaries as well as dialect atlases and linguistic maps of Slavic and Balkan languages (Ukrainian, Russian, Slovenian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, Slovak, Polish, Romanian, etc.) and their Carpathian dialects served as the material for analysis in the paper. The research uses methods of semantic-phonetic analysis of word variants in lexicographic sources, the interpretation of linguistic maps, and etymological analysis.
Analysis (on the basis of Lexis Used in the Short Story Fatum by Antoni Lange from 1925) The article presents the elements of prison argot, which has occurred in the novel called Fatum by Antoni ...Lange. The author of this article describes lexemes as constituent of stylization procedure, discussed the etymology of few lexems used in Polish criminal jargon, from the 19th century until the interwar period. The lexemes listed in the oldest Polish sociolectical dictionaries, e.g.: kimber, szopenfeldziarz, bugajczyk, mojka, skakier, chatrać, fekstier, wydra are presented in the text. Many of them do not appear in non-standard dialect any more. This article tries to fill a gap in the research on the origins of some jargon words.
