Polymer/metals nanocomposite films were investigated from aqueous solutions of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/acrylic acid (AAc) using UV radiation. The formation of metal nanoparticles (NPs) was ...characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and UV-vis spectroscopy. It was found that UV radiation induced the reduction of the metal ions in the polymer matrix into metal nanoparticles. The electrical properties and the anti-microbial efficiency were carried out for the prepared compositions. The maximum AC conductivity was observed in the composites containing Ag NPs. Finally, a green method has been suggested for the development of conductive nano polymer/metal composites that can be used in biomedical applications.
Community policing has been a buzzword in Anglo-American policing for the last two decades, somewhat vague in its definition but generally considered to be a good thing. In the UK the notion of ...community policing conveys a consensual policing style, offering an alternative to past public order and crimefighting styles. In the US community policing represents the dominant ideology of policing as reflected in a myriad of urban schemes and funding practices, the new orthodoxy in North American policing policy-making, strategies and tactic. But it has also become a massive export to non-western societies where it has been adopted in many countries, in the face of scant evidence of its appropriateness in very different contexts and surroundings.
critical analysis of concept of community policing worldwide
assesses evidence for its effectiveness, especially in the USA and UK
highlights often inappropriate export of community policing models to failed and transitional societies.
Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation for medical workers Background: Health workers in some diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are exposed to low doses of ionizing radiation. Chronic ...exposure to low doses of radiation can have many negative consequences on the human health, such as cataracts and, among the most serious consequences, the increased risk of morbidity for certain types of cancer. Guidelines for the safety of working with radiation sources and the legislation aim to reduce workers' exposure to ionizing radiation to the lowest as reasonably achievable. This article focuses on the presentation and discussion of the effective annual doses for the period from 2006 to 2010 received by Slovenian health care workers exposed to the artificial sources of ionizing radiation. Methods: We obtained personal dosimetry data from 2006 to 2010 collected by the Slovenian Radiation Protection Administration (SRPA). Results: The effective annual dose limit in Slovenia is 20 mSv. The annual dose received by health workers did not exceed 9.99 mSv in any group and in most groups, more than 95 % of doses were in the dose area below 1 mSv (in nuclear medicine and brachytherapy, around 80 %). The average doses for the period from 2006 to 2010 are 0.47 mSv for nuclear medicine, 0.19 mSv for interventional radiology, 0.09 mSv for other radiology, 0.10 mSv for brachytherapy, 0.07 mSv for teleradiotherapy, 0.05 mSv for dental medicine and 0.02 mSv for other employees in medicine. Conclusions: In the last five years, health workers in Slovenia received some ten times less effective annual doses than the effective annual dose limit prescribed by law, which is comparable to the developed world. Izjava dr. Showing levels of radioactivity using a Geiger counter at the Institute of Jožef Štefan with Dr. Rafael Martinčič, head of the environmental laboratory, stallholders at a market, experts advising against the consumption of vegetables produced in the Slovene region given the levels of contamination. Panic amongst people buying stocks of UHT milk and milk powder products. A statement by Dr. Metka Macarol-Hiti from the Republic Commitee for Health and Social Care is presented. Fresh milk is processed into dairy products and milk powder, where contamination with radioactive iodine disappears after 60 days. Adults and students can move outside without restrictions, but for pregnant women and infants it is still recommended that they reduce their periods of time spent outdoors to a minimum. This is just a precautionary measure, whereas measured radiation is not dangerous to health. - Information:- Consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster – elevated radiation and contaminated food. Overview of the condition of vegetables on sale at the market, milk processing and the panic when buying milk.- Original language summary:

2005 NoticiasFinancieras - 2005 GDA - El Universal - All rights reserved
