High yield has always been the primary objective of peanut breeding. 100-pod weight (HPW), 100-seed weight (HSW), and shelling percentage (SP), are crucial components of peanut yield. This study ...aimed to construct a high-density linkage map by resequencing the recombined inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross between “Silihong” (A. hypogaea var. fastigiate) and “Jinonghei 3” (A. hypogaea var. hypogaea). The map consisted of 4,499 bins spread across 20 chromosomes, totaling 1712.32 cM in length with an average inter-marker distance of 0.38 cM. A total of 46 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were identified across three environments. The major QTLs, including qHPW5.2, qHPW18.1, qSP7.1, qSP8.1, qSP8.2, qSP18.1, and qSP18.2, exhibited PVE (phenotypic variation explained) of 12.04, 11.41, 16.53, 24.17, 10.49, 10.82, and 29.89%, respectively. Fourteen QTLs identified across multiple environments were considered stable. One QTL (qHPW7, qHSW7.1, qSP7) was associated with all three traits, with the PVE value of 8.91, 9.04, and 16.53% for HPW, HSW, and SP, respectively. The genome-wide association study was conducted using the US mini-core collection to validate the accuracy of QTL mapping. Across two environments, 115 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were significantly associated with HPW, HSW, and SP in the association panel. Six SNPs were associated with two traits, explaining an average phenotypic variation of 13.84%. Combining the two mapping populations, AX-176802178, detected on chromosome 7 in the association panel, which controlled SP, was located within the QTL qSP7 confidence interval defined by the RILs. Moreover, three KASP markers were developed and validated in peanut landraces and varieties. These QTLs might offer valuable insights for understanding the genetic basis of HPW, HSW, and SP and provide useful molecular markers for marker-assisted breeding in peanuts.
Poor shelling quality degrades the performance and profit of the peanut industry. The Hertz theory and the wear resistance experimental method were applied to identify a highly wear-resistant ...material guaranteeing a low mechanical damage rate (MDR) of peanut kernels. The Box–Behnken design method was applied in the experiment to illustrate the influence of the material’s elastic modulus (X1), radius of curvature of the key parts (X2), rotating speed of the shelling drum (X3), and clearance between the shelling drum and concave screen (X4) on MDR and shelling efficiency (SE). Depending on the analysis of variance, the weights of the influential factors were observed as X1 > X3 > X4 > X2. The mathematical models of MDR and SE were derived from the least squares’ method, and four-dimensional slice diagrams of the three most significant factors were used to illustrate the trends of MDR and SE. A multi-objective analysis provided the optimal combination of parameters as: X1 = 10 MPa, X2 = 12.77 mm, X3 = 277.48 r/min, and X4 = 24.24 mm, yielding MDR = 4.89% and SE = 97.91%. The results were further verified by a production trial test, proving that the proposed solution with the selected material, machine design, and working parameters were effective in improving peanut shelling quality.

This paper tackles the challenging problem of constrained hexahedral meshing. An algorithm is introduced to build combinatorial hexahedral meshes whose boundary facets exactly match a given ...quadrangulation of the topological sphere. This algorithm is the first practical solution to the problem. It is able to compute small hexahedral meshes of quadrangulations for which the previously known best solutions could only be built by hand or contained thousands of hexahedra. These challenging quadrangulations include the boundaries of transition templates that are critical for the success of general hexahedral meshing algorithms.
The algorithm proposed in this paper is dedicated to building combinatorial hexahedral meshes of small quadrangulations and ignores the geometrical problem. The key idea of the method is to exploit the equivalence between quad flips in the boundary and the insertion of hexahedra glued to this boundary. A novel approach to deal with the large number of problem symmetries is proposed. Combined with an efficient backtracking search, it allows small shellable hexahedral meshes to be found for all even quadrangulations with up to 20 quadrangles. All 54, 943 such quadrangulations were meshed using no more than 72 hexahedra. Phenotyping is an integral part of plant breeding operations. In many cases the trait measured is not identical to the target trait for reasons of speed and or cost. This is a form of indirect ...selection, where correlation between the trait measured and the target phenotype influences the rate of genetic gain. Low correlations lead to slow rates of genetic gain. In sub-Saharan African maize breeding programs, maize grain yield in breeding experimental plots is measured as a field weight (FW), which includes the grain and cob. The weight of grain from each plot is estimated as a standard proportion of grain to total ear weight using a shelling percentage of 80 %. This approach assumes that there is no genetic, environment or genetic by environment interaction in shelling percentage which, if present, would contribute to slower rates of genetic gain for grain yield.
This study investigated the magnitude of genetic and environmental variation in shelling percentage and its impact on selection in six hybrid maize multi-environment yield trials in Ethiopia over two seasons.
The data of shelled grain weight (SW) and cob weight (CW) from the trials were analyzed using a bivariate linear mixed model.
Genetic variances for both traits varied across the six testing sites ranging from 0.199 to 2.975 for SW and from 0.029 to 0.245 for CW. The genetic correlations between pairs of sites for SW and CW also varied, indicating the existence of genotype by environment interaction for these traits. Additionally, the bivariate regressions between FW and SW indicated there was substantial genetic deviation around the 80 % shelling response, and this relationship was impacted by environmental influences.
The use of a constant relationship of 80 % shelling biases grain yield prediction in multi-environment hybrid maize yield trials and thus reduces the rate of genetic gain in maize breeding programs.
Taking into account the variations in the shelling percentage of the genotypes across sites in predicting grain yield from field weight improves the accuracy of genotype selection and the rate of genetic gain in maize breeding programs.

Shucking is an indispensable step in the preparation of cooked mussel products, as it facilitates the detachment of meat from the shell. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the effects of boiling, steaming, and microwaving on taste constituents in half-cooked mussel meat. Two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy revealed the key differential taste components of the different shucking groups. Structural equation modeling (SEM) indicated the positive effects of saltiness and bitterness on umami taste, while sweetness and sourness had negative effects on umami taste in half-cooked mussel meat. Furthermore, Glu, Asp, Ala, Arg, betaine, malic acid, succinic acid, glycogen, Cl−, Na+, K+, and PO3- 4 were quantitatively determined as the main taste compounds. The steaming shelling group had the most enriched taste components, with the highest equivalent umami concentration compared to the other shelling groups. Hence, steaming shucking may be favored due to abundant tastes and nutrients.

As an application of our results, we give alternative proofs of two theorems of Stanley and Gao & Peng, determining the number of linear edge orderings of complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs, respectively, with the property that the first i edges induce a connected subgraph.
As another application, we give a simple product formula for the number of linear orderings of the hyperedges of a complete 3-partite 3-uniform hypergraph such that, for every i, the first i hyperedges induce a connected subgraph. We found similar formulas for complete (non-partite) 3-uniform hypergraphs and in another closely related case, but we managed to verify them only when the number of vertices is small.
