In an educational environment, mastery of speaking skills must be prioritized to achieve the expected targets according to applicable standards. At first glance, language mastery, especially ...students' speaking skills at the elementary school level, are not fully on target. This study aims to describe the use of the storytelling method as an alternative to improving Indonesian speaking skills, to foster appreciation for Indonesian literary works, and to find out the extent of the effect of the storytelling method in improving the speaking skills of class II MI Misbahul Fata students. This classroom action research uses the Kemmis and Mc spiral model design. Taggart which has four cycle components. Each research cycle includes stages; planning, observation and reflection. The subject of this study was students of class II MI Misbahul Fata, who in fact were in the Islamic boarding school environment, Klenang Kidul Village, Banyuanyar District, totaling 12 students. The problem that is rife with students is that they usually mix their mother tongue with the national language. There are several steps to implementing this storytelling method; The first is the opening stage, the second is the storytelling stage, the third is the closing and evaluation stage. In the early stages, the acquisition of student scores was 64.6% in the initial cycle from the previous data of approximately 59.5%, in the second cycle the average was 71.25%. In cycle I the completeness of the number of participants was around 58.3%, from cycle I it increased to 83.3% in cycle II. With these results, it can be concluded that the storytelling method can support students' speaking skills.
Self-confidence is a trait that can evoke an attitude to have positive, idealistic, and optimistic thoughts about abilities. Even though there are frequent interactions between teachers and students ...with English in class, students still feel less confident when speaking in front of their classmates. The study was aimed to investigate the relationship between EFL students' self-confidence and their speaking skills at SMPIT Al Muchtar. The type of this study is quantitative design. The IBM SPSS Statistics application with 24 version was used to calculate. The population taken was all the eighth grade students which consisted of 108 students. There were 30 students taken using the purposive sampling technique as the respondents comprising 22 females and 8 males. Two instruments were used to collect the data, namely: a questionnaire for measuring students’ self-confidence and speaking test used for speaking skills. After the data was obtained, the researcher analyzed the correlation data. It was found that there was a positive relationship between EFL students' self-confidence and speaking skills at SMPIT Al Muchtar. This proved that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected because 0.548 > 0.361 with a significance value of 5%. In conclusion, there was a fairly significant relationship between self-confidence and speaking skill.
English proficiency is a desirable performance quality. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of discourse markers in improving English speaking skills. This study employs a ...quantitative methodology. This study employed a pre-test-posttest group design, The study's demographic and sample consist of Class XI IPA 80 students from the academic year 2023/2024. The researcher employed the snowball sampling method to ascertain the requisite sample size. Prior to conducting the pre and post tests, the researcher assessed the instrument's validity and reliability using SPSS. This was done by examining the scores on the corrected item total correlation, which measures the correlation between item scores and the total item score. The students were designated as Group A (experimental) and Group B (control). Subsequently, students engage in a Pretest to ascertain any disparities among them. The researcher provided discourse markers to both groups; however, only the experimental group employed them, whilst the control group did not. The experimental group will receive treatment including the use of discourse markers. The T test was employed as the data analysis tool. The results indicated that the observed T value was 7.313, and the Sig. value was less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be inferred that the utilisation of discourse markers enables students to enhance their proficiency in English speaking. This research is significant as it can enhance English language acquisition, particularly by highlighting the significance of teachers' role in teaching discourse markers during English language learning.
The teaching material is an important element in the implementation of the learning process, as it serves as a source of information and a learning medium. Therefore, teachers should present ...teaching material that can achieve the learning objectives. Teaching material is one of the components in education that needs to be designed as best as possible, as it helps in designing the direction and goals of the learning process. Thus, designing teaching material is the most crucial aspect of the education and learning process. The teaching of Arabic in several schools, especially at the secondary level, is ineffective and inefficient. This is due to the diverse educational backgrounds of students and their lack of knowledge about the Arabic language. Therefore, there is a need for teaching material that can address these issues. One of the steps to tackle these problems is to innovate in education, and one of the ways is to develop teaching material that caters to the needs of students and the learning objectives. Hence, the aim of this research is to develop Arabic language teaching material to enhance students' speaking skills. The research method employed in this study is Design-Based Research (DBR). The results of this research include the development of Arabic language teaching material through three steps: 1) establishing learning objectives, 2) determining the lesson content, and 3) forming assessments. The validation of the developed Arabic language teaching material by experts, teachers, and students is good.
Anxiety is a dimension of foreign language speaking that is heavily investigated in the EFL contexts. The anxiety in speaking needs to find out factors making students feel anxiety in speaking. This ...study aims to find out the factors contributing students’ speaking Anxiety in speaking at MTs. Darul Ishlah Ireng Lauq Lombok Barat. This research is classified as case study using descriptive qualitative method. The research object covers factors contributing students’ speaking anxiety. To find out the data, questionnaire and interview activities are carried out. The questionnaire is used to know the factors making students’ anxiety in speaking. The results are in the form of percentage. Meanwhile, the interview activities are oriented to strengthen the students’ responses based on the results of questionnaire. The data are then analyzed using qualitative ways. The steps of qualitative data analysis cover data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. Based on the result of analysis, there are 10 (ten) factors contributing students’ anxiety, such as being afraid to speak in English, being afraid with teacher’s consequence, lack of self-confident, fear of being less competent than others students, embarrassment, insufficient preparation, fear of making mistakes, limited vocabulary, habit in using English language, and language test. The detail explanation of the findings is elaborated in discussion part of this article.
The objective of this study is to evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of Communicative Language Teaching in the context of CEFR-based English language learning. The population consisted of ...students from State Junior High School (SMPN) 8 in Jambi. The samples were collected using convenience sampling. A total of 32 students participated in this study. This investigation utilized a quantitative research approach with a pre-experimental design. The CEFR Test was utilized as an assessment tool for data collection. Three primary methodologies were employed in this investigation. The study consisted of pre-test, treatment procedures, and post-test assessments. The pretest was administered to assess the students' proficiency in spoken English according to the CEFR standard. Subsequently, the researchers administered eight rounds of treatments utilizing Communicative Language Teaching. The concluding phase involved administering a post-test to determine if there was any improvement in students’ performance. The researchers analyzed the results of the pre-test and post-test following the implementation of the Communicative Language Teaching treatment in CEFR-based English learning. The two-tailed significance value obtained from the calculation of the paired samples t-test was 0.017, which is less than the significance level of 0.05. The value of this computation can be interpreted as the progressive improvement in student performance resulting from the implementation of Communicative Language Teaching in CEFR-based English education.
Arabic learning is a process in which students learn Arabic with the help of a teacher. In this process, various components are arranged with the main aim of achieving mastery of Arabic knowledge and ...skills, including comprehension of Arabic material, making sentences in Arabic and the like. The importance of mastering Arabic language skills is one of them, namely speaking skills. In this study proposed the extemporan method as an approach in Arabic speaking skills. This study used a quantitative approach with experimental research techniques using pre-experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design model. The analytical techniques used in this study are Normality Test, Homogeneity Test, Correlation Coefficient, and T Test (Partial) with a sigification level of 5%. The sample used in this study was grade VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Kota Tangerang. The results showed that the extemporan method had a significant effect on improving the Arabic speaking skills of grade VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tangerang City with a significance value (p-value) of < 0.05. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the extemporan method is effective in improving the Arabic speaking skills of grade VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tangerang City.
