Istraživanje provedeno i predočeno u ovome članku dovodi do sličnih zaključaka.
The notion of the „Dark Ages“, as a period of scientific desolation is still a highly influential paradigm in the academic circles. It is believed that this desolation was caused by the Catholic Church which has destroyed or neglected the rich knowledge from the antiquity, mostly collected by the Greek and the Romans, and that the Catholic Church has hindered every scholarly and rational thought as well as scientific research. However, nowadays there is more and more studies that undermine the credibility of this notion. The research described in this paper leads to similar results. The views of the most prominent Christian authorities, from the Church Fathers till the Renaissance, of philosophy and science, are re-examined. The scientific contribution of the important Christian figures was also researched. The results have shown that Christian authorities had an extremely positive opinion when it comes to the abilities of common sense for comprehension and understanding of the world. They believed that empirical research of the material world was irreplaceable. This has caused huge advancements in all fields of social life, and thus laid the foundations for the modern Western science and civilization.
This paper explores the ecclesiological implications of Jürgen Moltmann’s trinitarian theology of the cross. According to Moltmann, the hierarchical model of the Church was formed on the basis of the Hellenistic philosophical concept of God, which Moltmann calls monarchical monotheism. Instead of monarchical monotheism, Moltmann bases the unity of the Church according to the model of the perichoretic unity of the three Divine Persons, which acknowledges no privileges or subjugation, and which is open to humankind, leading it into communion with the Triune God and with each other. Although he holds that a community of equal individuals is a more appropriate model of the Church than a hierarchical one, the question of the Church’s organization is, for Moltmann, ultimately a question of secondary importance. The focal point of ecclesiology should not be the organization of the Church, but its mission, understood within the wider framework of mission Dei, an eschatological movement that begins with God, and finds its goal in consummation of all creation. If we perceive the Church in this manner, as a community whose purpose is not the expansion of the Church, but the expansion of the Kingdom, and if we also take into account that the eschatological kingdom includes all people, all beings, and the earth itself, then this opens up a vast ecumenical potential and a space for dialogue with other religions, as well as the (secular) society as a whole.
Pitanje sv.
The question of St. Dujam and apostolicity of the Church of Split, i.e. its direct connection with the apostles, has been the focus of research by numerous researchers throughout history and is still very relevant. It is insufficiently known in the scientific community that the priest from Split, Don Kerubin Šegvić (Split, 23 February 1867 - Zagreb, after 29 June 1945) was involved in the scientific debate. In this context, the fact that Don Kerubin was sentenced to death by the communist government in Zagreb on June 29, 1945 and then liquidated is not unimportant, which turned his life and work into a taboo subject until the beginning of democratic changes in Croatia. Don Kerubin joined the discussion at the beginning of March 1901 when his scientific study "Storia e leggenda di S. Domnione o Doimo vescovo e martire di Salona e delle sue reliquie. Saggio storico-critico" was published in Split. In the study, Šegvić deals with the question of the date of Dujam's death, the place where his bones are kept and the veneration of Dujam throughout history. The distribution of Šegvić's study was banned on March 9, 1901 by the Roman Congregation of Sacred Rites on the recommendation of Split Bishop Filip Frano Nakić (1889-1910). When Bishop Nakić's chancellor Don Leopold Ivanišević took over the confiscated copies of Don Kerubin's studies from Don Frane Bulić on March 29, 1901, Don Frane wrote "Resurrecturis" on each of the four packages, in the hope that one day those studies would be "resurrected". We will try to clarify in this article what was disputed by the church authorities in Šegvić's book and what is its scientific value.
The article elaborates on basic traits of Biblical wisdom. In the Bible, wisdom has been presented as a set of rules aimed at right and just relations within the community of God's creatures. The Biblical wisdom is an attitude in dialogue with the created world that manifests itself through a series of warnings and insights that lead towards a better and, in the long -term, sustainable life in harmony with the natural environment. This study of selected texts of wisdom literature (Sir 16:26 - 17:14 and Wis 11:24 - 12:1) reveals that the Biblical wisdom is at the same time theological, anthropological, and ecological wisdom; it leads one towards knowledge of God and the world as the place of God's manifestation and towards knowledge of human being's tasks in the world. As a Divine creature among other creatures, the human being is responsible for maintaining order and harmony in his/her relation with God and other creatures. The article reaches the conclusion that wisdom does not presuppose a cognitive understanding of rules of religious loyalty and responsibility towards God, but demands also a religious commitment to maintaining harmonious relations with other creatures. Literature of the Biblical wisdom presupposes that a wise human life manifests itself in practical works of harmony with the environment in which human being lives.
Because of its constituent function within the category of history, time has always been a very important and frequently discussed topic in the Judeo-Christian tradition, and later in Christian theology, while the category of space in that same theology has remained more at the periphery of interest. However, in contemporary Christian theology, there is an awakened interest in this category and an attempt to show it as an immanent theological category, as we recognize within it the existential religious question of human search for God’s presence and closeness. It is an approach where space is contemplated as a relative dimension in relation to God and man, and on the other hand as a possible characteristic of God’s very being. With this argumentation, the question of space has also found its place in the theological explorations of Jürgen Moltmann. He ponders how to contemplate space within the experience of God, that is, how to contemplate and understand God if we try to contemplate space in God and God in space. He explores this issue through his religious-theological openness to the world (clearly visible within his theology of creation), but above all through a consistent internal development of his entire theological thought which is centered and grounded in trinitarian theology, a fact that is recognized and shown in this paper. Moltmann would find some starting elements for his theological reflection on space in the Old Testament understanding of God (»šekinah«, »makom« and »zimzum«), as presented in the first part of this paper, while he would find and develop the fundamental grounds for a theological interpretation of the category of space only within the trinitarian Christian doctrine, as presented in the second central part. Here we show that the patristic doctrine of perichoresis has served as Moltmann’s main grounds to clearly focus on the category of space as a theological category, which is recognized as the fundamental turning point within his theology. Finally, the third part of the paper presents the consistencies which extend from Moltmann’s trinitarian reflections to his theology of creation, and later to Christian eschatology, where the reflection on the category of space holds a very important place. This category has somehow proved to be the fundamental category of his theology, but also the red thread that is always re-emerging, interconnecting and completely permeating and defining that theology.
The article compares the political theologies of Carl Schmitt and Johann Baptist Metz to point out the analogy between these two seemingly different projects, which, despite all the similarities, ...stand in counterpoint when it comes to the intention of their founders. Their analogy stems from the very structure of political theology as a reflection on the relationship between religion and politics. Thus, both political theologies are structural in nature, developing the metaphysical and hermeneutic framework to analyze their material object. Likewise, they adopt a negative theological anthropology to emphasize the adverse nature of human existence. Finally, Schmitt and Metz rely on the disruptive-critical element of political theology – the fact that the sociopolitical life of the entire community lies in a reciprocal relationship with the religious beliefs of its members – to point out how man’s subjectivity is not limited to history but transcends it.
