The essay considers the atypical literary production of the humanist Tristano Caracciolo (Naples, 1437-1522) and analyses Caracciolo's controversial standing into political and cultural sphere of ...Naples between the end of XV century and the beginning of XVI century. In the De vitae auctoris actae notitia, his memoirs, and in other autobiographical and historical works, Caracciolo, member of Neapolitan nobility, focuses on events of major importance for history of Naples and its Kingdom. The essay shows the portrait of an intellectual who felt himself not entirely close to the reigning dynasty and was faithful to the native and austere mos maiorum of the Neapolitan nobility.
The Urgency of Climate Change addresses a pivotal challenge for the sustainability of our planet. This topic was selected for the inaugural conference in 2015 of an annual series on the Integrity of ...Creation. The essays in this collection were selected in a peer-reviewed manner and appeal to a general audience. The chapters move from general to more specific points of view, with a discussion at the end of each section addressing the global impact of climate change. The first section sets the Context for the discussion, explaining that the climate is an indispensable common good. The part on Science emphasises that empirical reality must guide any analysis of the climate as a matter of basic knowledge and comprehension. A crucial implication is whether the climate is sufficiently robust for the Earth to flourish for millennia ahead, as discussed in the part on Sustainability. In turn, these sections raise pivotal questions, regarding Ethics about social obligations for the planet to flourish and regarding Religion to foster global stewardship. Finally, this alignment of Ethics and Religion around the problems related to Science and Sustainability leads to the final section on Law that considers policy possibilities to effectively engage Climate Change.

Throughout the Middle Ages dialectical disputation was the prevailing method of scholarly inquiry. In the fifteenth century, however, humanists challenged the scholastic method, proposing instead ...historical and philological approaches. This volume focuses on the polemic over the right approach to biblical studies. It describes manifestations of the controversy, ranging from its beginnings in quattrocento Italy to Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, and scholars associated with the papal court in the sixteenth century. Erasmus, the most prominent biblical humanist of his day, served as a lightning rod for many of the controversies discussed here and has also received much attention from modern scholars. The chapters offered here seek to lend a voice also to Erasmus' critics and to right the balance in a historical narrative that has traditionally favoured the humanists.
