In recent years, the rapid growth of virtual technology has penetrated the tourism industry, and the pandemic has boosted its tremendous growth worldwide, including in Indonesia. Travel restrictions ...due to prevention strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic have been responsible for increasing the demand for virtual tours and creating a niche market in tourism, rather than only being a tool for promotional marketing. It is deemed important to understand the market in order to develop a sustainable market in this sector successfully. Therefore, this study examined the motivations of virtual tourists and determined whether virtual tour experiences can influence their motivation to visit the destination. First, a quantitative research method using factor analysis with a total of 111 (n) completed questionnaires was performed. Then, with content analysis, the descriptive representation of the content was established to support the factor dimension. This study found that there were five factors of the main motivations for tourists to do virtual tour activities. They are “Relaxing & well-being”, “Novelty”, “Education & Learning”, “Tendency to visit the destination”, and “Digital experience”. Furthermore, this study found that the real physical travel experience is irreplaceable, but virtual tour brings new & unique experience to tourists. The results of this research can be implemented by the tourism business to enhance the understanding and development of the future of virtual tours experience in the tourism industry. It can also contribute to the current knowledge of digital tourism applications, particularly in Indonesia’s context.
The classification of living things learning in school faced some obstacles, one of which was the difficulties in presenting the specimen of real living things. One of the advanced information and ...technology products in the form of digital or virtual-based learning media was expected to be the solution to this problem. Through this research, a virtual garden learning media was developed as an alternative learning media for the classification of living things. This development research (Design-Based Research) used an ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate), which consisted of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The development of the Virtual Garden application started with creating the workflow and wireframe, creating the 3D asset using Blender Software, producing the virtual garden interactive media using Unity-3D software, and adding the C# programming. This research involved an expert in learning media and an expert in Science Learning content as the validators. The results of Virtual Garden validation showed that this application had been valid and relevant to be used as a Science/Biology learning media on the classification of living things topics. Based on the implementation results, the students gave positive responses to the use of Virtual Garden in learning.
The study aims to investigate how a 360° virtual tour is more effective than photographs in strengthening viewers' attitudes when promoting tourist destinations. The results of a quasi-experiment ...indicate that a 360° virtual tour led to higher mental imagery processing in the dimensions of quantity, modality, and valence; however, there was no significant difference in the dimension of vividness. These four dimensions of mental imagery have a significant impact on the sense of presence and communication effects (attitude strength and attitude confidence). In addition, a sense of presence mediates the relationship between mental imagery processing and communication effects.
Architectures are always subject to transformation in time. When a historical building is seen by a tourist or by an occasional visitor, it appears like a complete and final artefact, showing its ...main characteristics like a clear example of a style or of an artistic phase. This interpretation may turn out to be mostly a simplification, while the building is often the result of a large set of interventions in time. It is the case of a large number of main and secondary architectures, changed according to the mutation of needs and tastes. In Fabriano, in central-eastern Italy, the St. Venanzio Church (later Cathedral) was subject to a significant transformation of the apse interiors during the XVII century, with the demolition of the original chapels’ asset and their replacement by a larger unitarian space behind the main altar.
This intervention has afflicted all the frescos that were the decoration of those chapels, they were partially deleted by the new masonry works, covered by paint, or walled in the new shape of the church. Since its early discovery, this patrimony has received various restorations. The research for a virtual reconstruction was based on a detailed digital survey of the building.
•Analysis of the influence of virtual tours on the physical environment.•Data analysis by implementing a virtual city in Minecraft.•Understand changes in destination image and visit intention through ...virtual tour.•Point-of-interest (POI) network analyzed through edge weight.•Quantitative analysis of physical and virtual networks from a network perspective.
Virtual tours provide an interactive experience for potential visitors, influencing the destination image and the intention to visit. However, virtual tours are limited to one-way communication, and there is a need to quantitatively analyze the influence of virtual tours based on the context of physical movement. Therefore, this study aimed to quantitatively analyze the virtual influence from a network perspective and to analyze changes in destination image and intention to visit through a two-way virtual tour. We noted that virtual tours are confirmed to improve destination image and intention to visit, and the experience of a place in Minecraft plays a mediator role in the activation of local visits. This study demonstrates that virtual tours can be a mediator to help local visits and that virtual tours affect physically marginalized. We believe these findings can be applied as practical solutions for areas with physical mobility constraints and contribute to urban visitor studies.
The article justifies the expediency of training specialists in the field of tourism by means of museum virtualization. It is emphasized that the development of modern information technologies shapes ...the theory and practice of electronic education. Various definitions of the term ‘virtual museum’, types of virtual museums, criteria for their classification, reasons for popularity, and the history of their development are partly presented. It is emphasized that virtual museums are characterized by structural and functional diversity and are of great importance for the development of cultural tourism. The results of a student survey are presented, confirming the feasibility of using virtual tours in the educational process: it is interesting for students, increases the level of mastery of professionally-oriented knowledge and skills, promotes the development of a sustained in-depth interest in communication with museum objects, the development of creative abilities, the formation of media competences. It is shown that virtual museums provide an opportunity to fill the learning process with new interesting content through the use of modern Internet technologies.
•The work presents a detailed methodology for the creation of virtual tours.•The proposed methodology provides a low-cost solution that requires minimal technical expertise for execution.•Tangible ...physical structures of the cultural heritage site are documented.•Intangible historical and socio-cultural information of the cultural heritage site is also preserved.•This workflow serves as a template for other cultural heritage sites to replicate.
There is a growing use of digital and visualisation technologies in the documentation and preservation of cultural heritage sites. Using the Tampines Chinese Temple in Singapore as a case study, this paper presents a detailed methodological framework to create virtual tours for the preservation of both the physical built environment and intangible historical and sociocultural elements within the space of cultural heritage sites. Tangible data used in the creation of the virtual tour produced for the temple comprise spherical images collected via a 360° camera and two-dimensional (2D) high-resolution images obtained via a digital single-lens reflex camera. The tour also showcases intangible aspects of the temples cultural heritage, derived from references made to multiple sources, namely interviews with personnel involved in the management of heritage sites (e.g. the temple secretary) as well as historical archives (e.g. National Archives of Singapore and publications produced by the temple). In so doing, this paper promotes the importance of incorporating intangible elements of cultural heritage sites into a unified interface. This method is advantageous as the relatively low pricing of the chosen software, and the use of a 360° camera and digital single-lens reflex camera enhances accessibility for heritage practitioners and facilitate future applications.
