    The article discusses the national composition of Spodnje Podravje with Prlekija as an element of geographical environment and population. This area ranks among those areas in Slovenia where the ... share of the population of Slovenia origin is the greatest. The socio-economic development, which was based to a great extend on the development of agriculture, and the low degree of urbanization have not attracted a greater number of immigrants from various regions of ex-Yugoslavia, who otherwise considerably changed the national composition of population in certian parts of Slovenia. The non-Slovenian population can be divided into two groups: the relatively small number of Serbs, Albanians, Muslims and smaller etnich groups, and the slightly greater number of Croatians, who mainly immigrated from the Croation areas along the border. Due to the similarities of languages and cultures, as well as of socio-econimic structures, the Croation people were rapidly integrated into Slovenian society.
