  • The behaviour of coarse grain HAZ materials with small defects during cyclic loading [Elektronski vir]

    The effects of small artificial surface defects on fatigue strength of coarse grain HAZ material found at the weld toe was studied. The size of defects did not exceed the grain size, which is the ... most relevant microstructural unit of polycristalline metals. The artificial defects were made by indenting with Vickers pyramid and drilling holes. The samples of coarse grain Haz material were prepared using a welding thermal-cycle simulator or a furnace. The experimentally determined bending fatigue strength versus properly evaluated size of the defects was compared with the long cracks propagtion. Residual stresses appear when making small artificial defects. The crack initiation from defects was analysed and the influence of residual stresses discussed.
