  • Prediction of the first HAZ fracture appearance using its actual mechanical properties

    The results of FEM loading simulation and CTOD testing on HAZ microstructure adjacent to the fusion line are compared. Experimental work was carried out on synthetic microstructure of several ... possible brittle parts of single and double cycle HAZ. Their mechanical properties were experimentally determined and used for FEM modeling. The behaviour of SENB specimen made of HAZ material during loading was studied. The results of FEM loading simulation corresponding to the first fracture appearance are quite informative. It seems that this method could be an useful approach to the prediction of weld joint fracture resistance in the case of crack in the brittle part of HAZ.
