  • Teaching on/for systems thinking
    Mulej, Matjaž ...
It is well known that the rapid development of the 20th century has immensely increased both the life complexity and the growth of knowledge and science causing a very narrow specialization. The ... latter is both a precondition and a trap of usefulness of knowledge, which cannot be useful with no specialization, and is doubtful if limited to it, except exceptionally. Much more could be achieved in and interdisciplinary co-operation. Training for it lacks (also) in the advanced world a lot, they say. The gap between the human capacity to influence and the one to comprehend is therefore becoming dangerously deeper and deeper. When this danger showed up clearly in the 20th c., in a life period of a single generation, the support for holistic thinking in the form of the (General) systems theory and cybernetics has gained a more articulated form. In 1998 they have a number of anniversaries. For nature, mankind and individuals to assure their survival, it is urgent to introduce much more of both formal and informal training in systems thinking, action, and behavior, as well as their practice. From the viewpoint of both values and knowledge, the core for a change to a better situation lies in "ethics of interdependence", the other side of the coin called specialization.
