  • Ductile crack initiation in the root weld metal of HSLA wlded joint

    Reduced preheating of HSLA steels can save costs. An undermatched joint was made to avoid preheating of the base material and to prevent cold cracking. It has been shown that the use of soft ... electrodes for root passes does not endanger the global quality of the welded joint. This paper reports the ductile crack initiation property of this undermatched root weld metal in a multi-pass welded joint of HSLA steel. The criterion for ductile crack initiation was evaluated by experimental and FE-analytical works on the basis of the "two-parameter criterion" for the transferable approach to the estimation of ductile cracking of welded joint.
