Theoretical standpoints: Slovenia belongs to the group of countries in which the rate of population over 65 years of age is in permanent increase, what is also confirmed by the ageing indexes. ... Therefore, the elderly are becoming more and more important segment of population with specific needs and characteristics. Goal of this paper is to present physical activity of the obese elderly who made decision to change their lifestyle, participating at CINDI workshops programmed for health education, as well as to point out influence of informal social network on physical activities of the elderly. Methods: Research was based on the quantitative research methodology and descriptive method. Data gaining was carried out by a questionnaire, which first part was based on the literature review, and the second part on the standardised questionnaire for supported social networks according to Dr Clare Wenger. Non-random, convenience sample was used. Out of 30 questionnaires, 27 were turned back, i.e. 90% sample realisation. SPSS 19.0 statistical programs was applied for data processing. Results: Four fifths of the surveyed (80.7%) are daily active. Chisquare= 2.018; p=0.732 show that old age does not influence daily physical activity, as all age groups are mostly active to 30 minutes a day. Most elderly go for a walk, 70.4%. Regarding gender, females are statistically more engaged with Nordic walk than males (chi-square=4.725; p=0.030). Most elderly (70.4%) carry out physical activity by themselves, without persons from social network. Physical activity means socialising, moving, relaxation, weight control, health and keeping a form. Old person, whose network is made of introverted personalities, and who has self sufficient network support are less involved in physical activity than those who have other types of network support. Discussion and conclusions: Out of the research, which cannot be applied to the whole population, it is evident that old people have enough time for physical activity. Four fifths of the surveyed are daily physically active, what means that the elderly care for their own health. Important role for life quality in the old age also has social network, which significantly influence physical activity frequency. Health care and regular physical activities have considerable influence on the disease prevention and independence of the elderly.
