  • Diversification of incomes of agricultural households in the Škofjeloška rural areas [Elektronski vir]

    The paper analyses structural changes in agriculture in Škofjeloška hilly region inSlovenia focusing on the empirical analysis of the diversification of agricultural householdincomes in the years ... 2000 and 2010 and on the importance of self-employment. Theanalysis is conducted for the sample of agricultural households as a whole, and subsamplesby the socio-economic types and by the two municipalities with different levelof economic development and by the areas with different conditions for agriculturalproduction. The number of pure and mixed farms declined, while the number ofsupplementary farms and the farms in exiting increased. Incomes from farming for mostof agricultural households are not sufficient for survival and incomes diversification isunavoidable. Income diversification with self-employment is important for one-third ofagricultural households, which continue with agricultural production for market sales.Revenues from self and off-farm employment are important sources of incomes ofagricultural households and farm investment. Expansion of self-employment isconstrained by lack of time, risks and lack of interests for expansion of activities by usingand renting of external sources.
