Ravšelj, Dejan ; Žabkar, Jure, računalničar
An artificial intelligence-based chatbot, ChatGPT, was launched in November 2022 and can generate cohesive and informative human-like responses and engage in natural language conversations with ... users. Therefore, it is believed that ChatGPT can assist students in developing various skills. Therefore, this paper investigates the potential of ChatGPT to enhance skills and employability, emphasizing its perceived value among students. The empirical analysis is based on a sample of about 162 students enrolled in public administration study programmes at the Faculty of Public Administration at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. The results of descriptive statistics indicate that students see ChatGPT as beneficial for improving language and writing skills, less effective for hard skills like typing and numeracy, and notably less capable of enhancing soft skills, particularly interpersonal communication. Furthermore, the results of the structural equation model uncover complex relationships between ChatGPT's perceived ability to develop skills, its value, and its potential to enhance employability. Thus, this paper enriches the scientific literature and provides educators and policymakers with evidence-based recommendations for advancing public administration higher education.
