    The evidence described in previous chapters covers a representative transect from the southern distribution of the LBK, stretching over 1200 km from the middle Danube in Hungary to the upper Rhine valley in Alsace, France (Fig. 9.1). In this chapter we move from considering the data on the local and regional scale to look for general spatial trends – the supra-regional approach – and to consider their possible underlying causes. Furthermore, where such trends are prominent, they provide the context in which the significance of variation between sites can be addressed.
