Dura talks about philosophy, civil rights, and Freedom Summer. Freedom Summer, a project of Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) that took place in 1964 throughout the South, is probably best-known now for the deaths of the three civil rights workers in Mississippi that occurred during that time period. But if it is the case that without the activities of Freedom Summer, many of the accomplishments of the Civil Rights Movement would either have been delayed or even truncated, it is important to be specific both about the activities of the time and their philosophical underpinnings. Freedom Summer, as an important component of the Civil Rights Movement, had stated philosophical underpinnings and we can be very specific about what those supports were.
