BLT 1-2 was a marriage between units. The first three letter companies of the 1st Battalion, Second Marine Regiment, ("A," "B," and "C" Companies) and "F" Company of the 2nd Battalion, Second Marines, joined detachments of 81-mm mortars, 106-recoilless rifles, Shore Party, engineers, 2nd Tanks and a variety of helicopters from New River.
