    Journal Article

Experienced physicians typically acquire their clinical wisdom via an apprenticeship approach, based on cumulative hands-on experience, guided by insights from their mentors and colleagues, and shaped by knowledge of the literature. In recent decades, the availability of whole exome and genome sequencing, neuroimaging techniques, artificial intelligence, wearable sensors, and other technological advances seem to have shifted the focus of neurological research away from the bedside. Experienced clinicians will pass their unique expertise on to their own students and residents via bedside teaching, but not all this wisdom of our mentors is formally documented in textbooks. Since such knowledge is not shared widely, this rich clinical experience often remains confined to the trainees of those mentors. ...the current contributors to this Insight are neurologists, but we also encourage clinicians from a wide range of other professional disciplines (eg, physiotherapy, nurses, dietitians, social workers, and speech and language therapists, etc) to share their valuable experiences.
