The article is devoted to processes involved in the formation of complex words in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish, with reference to material from other Slavic languages. The main problems in the comparative description of Slavic composites are highlighted, and the principles of their classification are defined. Various new phenomena in the formation of complex words in modern Slavic languages are demonstrated. It is noted that word-formation processes in these languages have both common and distinctive features. The prospects for further research in the field of comparative word formation are outlined.
