    In this chapter we move southwards from Moravia and Slovakia into Austria, rejoining the course of the Danube in the lowland areas of northern Austria. Here LBK settlements are found situated on loess soils around secondary water courses on either side of the Danube, avoiding the higher ground of the Alps to the south and most likely set in amongst patches of deciduous woodland (Kreuzet al. 2005; Sommerer 2005).
