We examine briefly whether our realistic models of nuclear forces, which govern the interactions of neutrons and protons with one another and form the basis for precision calculations describing conventional few-nucleon systems, can extrapolate beyond the realm of S = 0 nuclear physics where they were developed, or whether they are merely exquisite interpolation tools within the bounds of well established neutron-proton physics. To address that issue, we examine certain novel aspects of Λ hypernuclei, exploring how few-body hypernuclei provide a laboratory in which one can investigate properties of the Λ N interaction. Finally we look forward to possible future experiments that can enhance our minimal data base for hyperon-nucleon scattering and reactions.
