To study the combining ability in respect of nine characters in rabi sorghum, the parental material consisting of three male sterile lines and ten restorer lines along with two checks was taken. There was considerable amount of genetic variability among the parents for all characters under study. The male sterile lines 53A and 36642A and the restores SPV-489, RS -29, SPV-1277 and RSE-5 were found to be good general combiners while, the crosses 53A x SPV-1277, 36642A x SPV-489, 116A x RS-29 and 36642A x RSE-5 exhibited good SCA effects for grain yield and most of its components. From the above crosses 53A x SPV-1277 was the best specific combination which exhibited higher magnitude of significant positively specific combining ability effects for grain yield and most of its components.
